Join Atlas Air Worldwide. Move the World with Us!

At Atlas Air Worldwide, we're not just an airline, we're a global engine powering cargo, passenger, and leasing operations across more than 70 countries. As a leader in outsourced aviation logistics, we're built on a foundation of safety, service excellence, integrity, innovation, teamwork, and responsibility. With over 30 years of history, a modern all-Boeing fleet, and nearly 5,000 teammates collaborating across operations, technical, and corporate functions, we're driven by purpose.

If you're ready to grow, innovate, and help us deliver excellence every single day, you belong here.

The Intern, Transformation & Value Creation accelerates Atlas Air's private equity-backed business transformation by scoping new opportunities to improve operational and financial performance, driving existing transformation efforts, and adding rigor to enterprise project management practices. This role aligns diverse stakeholder groups with different perspectives and priorities around a single plan to achieve organizational objectives. The ideal candidate has a strong interest in pursuing a career in private equity operations, general management, or a similar field involving high-impact, performance-driven business transformation.

While aviation experience is not a strict prerequisite, we are seeking someone who is interested in working for an asset-heavy logistics operation, where operational excellence and scale are critical drivers of success.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an internal consultant to lead delivery of a value creation initiative aimed at enhancing operational efficiency within a single vertical: flight operations, technical operations, ground operations, or commercial
  • Business Analysis: Analyze operational and financial data to develop and investigate hypotheses about performance drivers, especially for complex decisions involving multiple teams with downline impacts
  • Planning: Translate pain points, anecdotes, observations, current state processes, and KPIs into a well-structured plan to capture quantified financial value
  • Stakeholder Management: Align stakeholders across operations, commercial, finance, IT, and HR around a single plan with a clear set of actions, sufficient resourcing, and funding
  • Project Management: Guide project execution through PMO framework, ensuring we progress according to scope, schedule, budget, and quality standards, including flagging dependencies and mitigating risks
  • Change Management: Facilitate change management activities associated with project implementations, ensuring smooth transitions and stakeholder adoption of new processes or technologies
  • Performance Tracking: Report and present quantitative and qualitative results to operational leaders, Atlas executives, and investors through monthly Transformation Steering Committee

Qualifications

  • Graduate student - particularly in business, operations management, operations research, economics, industrial engineering, or related majors
  • Current student at a top-tier MBA program preferred
  • Previous full-time or internship experience in management consulting or strategy preferred

Skills:

  • Structured problem-solving approach for highly unstructured business problems
  • Open-minded questioning, "What would need to be true for this to work?"
  • Business plan creation to synthesize disparate information into a unified set of milestones, timelines, resources, risks, and dependencies required to deliver financial value
  • Confident and adaptable communication to sell ideas, create unified plans, and share progress across all levels of the company, from frontline to executive
  • Project management across all lifecycle phases, including analysis, planning, execution, and activation
  • Excellent written and visual communication skills, with an emphasis on creating high-quality presentations to convey analysis, plans, and progress effectively to a variety of stakeholder audiences
  • Presentation preparation for different purposes, including aligning stakeholders, planning project activities, and reporting on business performance
  • Data analysis to connect operations with financial results through SQL, Python, R, Excel, or similar
