About This Position:
The Entry-Level Construction Inspector will assist in ensuring the quality and safety of construction activities. You will learn from experienced inspectors and participate in small projects or segments of larger tasks, focusing on areas like highways, roundabouts, traffic signals, and bridges.
Essential Job Functions:- Identify exact locations on the construction site using project drawings.
- Understand basic construction operations and refer to standards, specifications, and project plans.
- Perform fundamental math calculations, including areas and volumes of simple shapes, as well as addition, subtraction, and multiplication of measurements.
- Accurately measure and compare values with project plans.
- Recognize common inspection tools and equipment used for testing and measuring.
- Utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) properly on-site.
- Identify components of work zone traffic control.
- Prepare clear, accurate reports summarizing operational findings.
Ideal candidates should have field experience with the NICET Level I certification or be working toward it. In accordance with NYSDOT policy, the following qualifications also apply:
- Previous employment at NYSDOT in an Engineering Technician role.
- One year of education in an ABET/EAC accredited Civil Engineering/Civil Engineering Technology program, which includes eight credit hours in Math and eleven credit hours in Civil Technology.
Applicants should have a minimum of six months of direct experience in highway construction inspection or related fields, or be actively pursuing NICET Level I certification or an equivalent.
Pay Range:$25.00/hour - $34.50/hour, based on experience and qualifications.
Qualifications:Education:
High School Diploma (required).
Experience:0 - 1 years in highway construction inspection or closely related fields (required).
Licenses &Certifications:
NICET Certification Level IV in Highway Construction (preferred).
