Base pay range
: $53,764.00/yr – $68,630.00/yr
Under the direction of a Senior Boiler Inspector within the Division of Safety & Health, the incumbent will:
- Make scheduled regulatory safety inspections of high and low pressure boilers and boiler installations to ensure safe operating conditions and enforce compliance with statutory provisions of the Labor Law and related industrial rules.
- Conduct inspections following complaints or accidents, which may require climbing through small openings and standing on top of boilers.
- Telecommute when appropriate, based on the needs of the job and discussion during the interview.
- Initiate and maintain relationships across a diverse stakeholder group (preferred qualification).
- NY HELPS Non-Competitive Minimum Qualifications
:
Four years of commercial, residential, or military experience in boiler making, installation, or inspection, or in the operation and maintenance of high and/or low pressure boilers including all firing apparatus and control devices. - Substitution option:
An associate degree in engineering technology, marine engineering, mechanical engineering, or mechanical technology plus two years of the experience described above. - Employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non‑competitive employment status converted to competitive status in the future without competing in an examination.
- Competitive minimum qualifications apply if the applicant meets any of the below permanent competitive qualifications. Social Security digits may be requested via email or phone.
- Eligibility for 55 B/C qualifications if Civil Service eligible lists are available; provide 55b/c letter upon application.
- Current Department of Labor employees: at least one year of permanent, contingent‑permanent, or 55b/c service as a Boiler Inspector; less than one year requires availability on the current eligible list.
- Transfer qualifications (70.1, 70.4) require one year of permanent or contingent‑permanent service at Grade 12 or higher, a passing Boiler Inspector exam score, and meeting minimum qualifications.
- A medical examination will be required prior to appointment and may be required periodically thereafter.
- A fingerprint background check may be required before appointment.
- Position may require occasional altered work schedules, out‑of‑station assignments, and evenings.
- Mobile vehicle license and proof of capability to meet transportation needs are required.
- Work authorization and necessary documentation to work legally in the United States are required.
- Assignment changes may occur but will not affect title, salary, or location.
