Registered Nurse Labor and Delivery
Minimum of 2 years of experience in Labor and Delivery. The unit has 14 beds, including 5 beds for triage/inpatient care, 6 labor beds, and 2 OR beds. Certifications required are ACLS and NRP, with a preference for RN-C. Charting is done in two systems, specifically Meditech and GE. Charge nurse duties exclude taking patient assignments, with a nurse leader present for support.
Nurse aides and scrub techs are available on the unit. There is a weekend requirement of every third weekend for day shifts, totaling 3 weekend shifts in a 4-week period. Night shifts on weekends occur on Friday and Saturday. Scrub colors are provided by the facility. A hospitalist or intensivist provides in-house coverage three nights a week. The unit has RT and pharmacy services available 24/7.
Nurses are expected to perform their own exams and full assessments but cannot place IUPCs. Candidates should be comfortable in a fast-paced environment and have experience with high-risk patients. Common diagnoses include C-sections and supportive care for high-risk obstetric patients. Key qualities include strong analytical skills and a commitment to customer service. Additional questions will focus on skills and prior assignments.
