** Job Summary
** Responsible for maintaining the landscape and hospital grounds, providing a clean, safe, beautiful environment at the Burke Rehabilitation Center. Workers perform a variety of tasks, using hand tools, power equipment, and machinery.

** Essential Functions
*** Mowing, water, wedding, seeding of hospital grounds.
* Snow removal utilizing heavy equipment and shovel.
* Assist in tree transplanting and removal.
* Clean streets, walk ways and catch basins.
* Special events- set up parties, displays, assist other departments
* Holiday decorations - set up
* Garbage removal – outside cans, litter, animal carcass, etc.
* Use hand tools, such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, saws, hedge or brush trimmers, or axes.
* Operate vehicles and powered equipment, such as mowers, tractors, snow blowers, chain saws, electric clippers, sod cutters, and pruning saws.
* Mow or edge lawns, using power mowers or edgers.
* Prune or trim trees, shrubs, or hedges, using shears, pruners, or chain saws.
* Care for established lawns by mulching, aerating, weeding, grubbing, removing thatch, or trimming or edging around flower beds, walks, or walls.
* Provide proper upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, fountains, planters, or other grounds features.
* Gather and remove litter.
* Rake, mulch, and compost leaves.
* Plant seeds, bulbs, foliage, flowering plants, grass, ground covers, trees, or shrubs and apply mulch for protection, using gardening tools.
* Trim or pick flowers and clean flower beds.
* Haul or spread topsoil or spread straw over seeded soil to hold soil in place.
* Water lawns, trees, or plants, using portable sprinkler systems, hoses, or watering cans.
* Maintain or repair tools, equipment, or structures, such as buildings, greenhouses, fences, or benches, using hand or power tools.
* Follow planned landscaping designs to determine where to lay sod, sow grass, or plant flowers or foliage.
* Plan or cultivate lawns or gardens.
* Shovel snow from walks, driveways, or parking lots and spread salt in those areas.
* Decorate gardens with stones or plants.
* Install rock gardens, ponds, decks, drainage systems, irrigation systems, retaining walls, fences, planters, or playground equipment.
* Maintain irrigation systems, including winterizing the systems and starting them up in spring.
* Repairing machines or systems using the needed tools.
* Power and hand tools standing grounds
* Handyman skills - woodworking, plumbing, electrical, motor repairs (on a limited basis, do not need to be an expert).
* Repair and maintain fountains, pools, lighting, etc.
* Maintenance, fertilizers and chemicals.
* Operate all equipment in a safe, professional manner.
* Maintain a clean, safe work environment at all times.
* Other duties as directed by the supervisor.
* Practices universal precautions.  
** Qualifications
* ** Required* Minimum 2 years small engine repair experience Required and
* Must be experienced in all phases of ground maintenance Required
* Has routine contact with members of the Department on a daily basis and also employees of other departments occasionally
* Must be able to lift heavy objects (40+ pounds) and walk great distances.
* Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather
