Overview: Join our Family Self-Sufficiency Program team as a Caseworker supporting participants in White Plains, NY through one-on-one case management, goal setting, and connections to community resources.
This is an onsite, contract-to-hire role at $23.08/hour, 40 hours/week, ideal for a bilingual English/Spanish human services professional who’s passionate about helping families move toward self-sufficiency.

Responsibilities:

• Provide case management services to assist Program Participants in achieving interim steps to self-sufficiency
• Assist program participants in writing their service plans and setting program and family goals
• Assist program participants in accessing appropriate public or private community agencies to obtain specialized types of assistance
• Provide counseling in life skills areas including parenting, employment, education, financial management, public assistance, food stamps, Medicaid, nutrition, etc.
• Establish effective relationships with participating families to help them achieve program and family goals
• Identify the need for services through in-depth discussions with clients
• Identify impediments to progress and evaluate program participants for level of motivation
• Conduct outreach and orientation to prospective FSS families
• Make necessary inter/intra-agency contacts on behalf of FSS families
• Maintain liaison with various individual agencies for client referrals
• Assist in the preparation and maintenance of assessments, case records, activity reports, and progress reports
• Prepare a variety of records and reports as necessary

Requirements:

• Knowledge of the characteristics, needs, and interests of public housing residents
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local housing regulations as applied to the Family Self-Sufficiency program
• Knowledge of accepted case management and interviewing techniques
• Knowledge of community agencies, facilities, and services that can aid residents
• Ability to plan and organize activities and services
• Effective oral and written communication skills
• Ability to establish effective relationships with others
• Possess initiative, resourcefulness, tact, courtesy, and sensitivity to residents' needs
• Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound ethical judgment
• Bi-lingual English/Spanish
• Graduation from a regionally accredited or NYS registered college or university with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, sociology, social services, human services, education or a related field with similar curriculum; or
• High school diploma or equivalency plus four years of full-time paid human services experience, or verifiable volunteer experience involving direct client services or an equivalent combination of training and experience as outlined above
