Program: Patient Transport/Sterling Community Center

Location: 29 Sterling Ave, White Plains, NY

Schedule: 21 hours per week

FLSA Status: Part Time, Non-exempt

Salary Range: $19-$23 per/hour

The Transportation Specialist-Driver supports the operation of Greater Mental Health of New York’s mission by providing curb-to-curb transportation for daily participants and ensuring timely arrival to and from program activities. Services are delivered in a recovery-oriented and trauma-informed manner, with flexibility to support individuals’ recovery goals. The Transportation Specialist also contributes to the maintenance and upkeep of vehicles, program grounds, and the site at 29 Sterling.

They are expected to know and follow the established policies and procedures of Greater Mental Health of New York.

Responsibilities
  • Maintenance of vehicles at 29 Sterling and ensuring they are safe to operate.
  • Collaborate with the Vice President of Facilities and Business Operations for maintenance services related to vehicles at 29 Sterling and the site itself.
  • Plan each route based on road and traffic conditions, accounting for vehicle size and local infrastructure to avoid hazards such as low bridges, narrow roads, and other obstacles.
  • Ability to operate vehicles in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Operate vehicles in full compliance with all traffic laws, maintaining appropriate speeds at all times and adhering to all organizational vehicle policies and safety protocols.
  • Transport clients and/or staff to and from 29 Sterling and identified destinations as required.
  • Complete a daily vehicle report, including a record of individuals transported, and any other required documentation related to transportation activities.
  • Responsible for the cleanliness and upkeep of assigned vehicles, including coordinating regular maintenance.
  • Attend regularly scheduled supervisory sessions, team meetings, and safety trainings.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
  • Knowledge of primary and secondary road networks in Westchester County.
  • Knowledge of traffic rules and regulations.

  • Accuracy and completeness of daily vehicle and transportation reports.
  • Vehicles at 29 Sterling and program grounds are maintained in a clean, safe, and functional condition in alignment with program standards.
Requirements
  • Must have prior experience driving large vehicles preferred.
  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
  • Experience in a related field required; flexible schedule is strongly preferred.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License and a driving record satisfactory to our insurance carrier.
  • Must maintain current New York State Defensive Driving certification.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and a kind, caring approach toward staff and participants.
  • Must be reliable, able to work independently, and understand the importance of maintaining confidentiality.
  • Basic computer knowledge is required.
  • Fluency in English (reading, writing, speaking).
  • Must be cleared and maintain clearance by applicable regulatory clearances as required.
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
