Reports To: Coordinator of Instructional Services

Primary Purpose

Guarantee the effective execution of the House Bill 3 Reading Academy mandates. This entails furnishing regional leadership, conducting staff development sessions, and delivering instructional coaching tailored to K‑3 literacy. The overarching aim is to enhance the capacity of Reading Academy participants in literacy instruction and equip them with best practices for optimal outcomes.

Education / Certification
  • Master’s Degree required.
  • Texas Teacher Certification – Elementary ELAR is preferred.
  • Administrative Certification is preferred.

  • Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong technology integration skills.
  • Ability to create and provide professional development based on predetermined material or resources.
  • Ability to interpret data and evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness.
  • Understand differentiated instruction to ensure success for all students.
  • Ability to facilitate learning experiences using appropriate TEA projects and resources.
  • Depth of knowledge in literacy instruction, digital literacy, lesson design, and pedagogy.
  • Strong knowledge of the science of teaching reading.
  • Demonstrate mastery of Reading Academies course content.
  • Depth of knowledge in adult learning theory.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement instructional practices that increase student achievement.
  • Ability to manage self‑directed projects.
Experience
  • Minimum of 5 to 8 years of successful classroom teaching experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of successful experience in coaching teachers.
  • Minimum of 5 years of successful K‑3 classroom teaching experience.
  • Successful completion of the Texas Reading Academies Cohort Leader Screener.
  • Successful completion of the Texas Reading Academies or Texas Reading Academies Cohort Leader experience is required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate knowledge of job‑specific content, the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills or State Guidelines, the state assessment and accountability system, and state initiatives and standards.
  • Demonstrate technology integration skills as appropriate for the role.
  • Demonstrate understanding and implementation of differentiated instruction to ensure success for all students.
  • Provide training and instructional coaching in the delivery of effective K‑3 literacy instruction.
  • Provide effective leadership to all stakeholders.
  • Facilitate professional learning and provide technical assistance to campuses/districts/charter schools.
  • Know research supporting effective lesson design to support learners and demonstrate understanding of TEKS/Guideline‑based instruction.
  • Demonstrate a skill set of research‑based instructional coaching and adult learning theory.
  • Connect the state standards to the Science of Teaching Reading.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the Reading Academies processes and systems.
  • Implement and adhere to the Reading Academies timelines/due dates/state requirements.

Computers, projection devices, control panels in meeting rooms, printers, productivity software, software specific to the job assignment, network resources, internet resources, and other hardware and software necessary to perform the functions of the job effectively and efficiently.
