Position: Playground Supervisor
The role involves assisting administrative and instructional staff by promoting a positive learning environment. Supervises K-4 or 5-8 students on the playground and in the lunchroom for approximately 5 hours daily during recess periods. Key responsibilities include providing large group supervision; ensuring a safe, secure, and enjoyable atmosphere; enforcing school rules and behavioral expectations; mediating conflicts; administering first aid; documenting behavioral interventions;
and communicating with the Assistant Principal.
- Supervise students on the playground, lunchroom, and on campus.
- Organize activities and direct students in safe activities, maintaining an orderly environment.
- Administer first aid and contact appropriate parties for serious illness or injury.
- Enforce behavior standards, reinforce desirable behavior, and assist in shaping positive social behaviors.
- Document student misbehavior and maintain ongoing behavior records for school improvement.
- Report severe behavioral problems to the principal using appropriate forms.
- Act as a positive role model, build student self-confidence, and exhibit patience when working with students, staff, and parents.
- Monitor students and support classroom staff as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to Board policy.
- Perform other assigned duties as directed.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience working with school-age children.
- Experience as a school para educator.
- 1-2 years of post‑high‑school training.
- Positive influence on children’s behavior and standards of conduct.
- Firm, fair, and consistent with student behavior problems.
- Knowledge of first aid/CPR training.
- Basic knowledge of student games and rules.
- Dependability, reliability, confidentiality, stress handling, teamwork, good judgment, and effective communication.
Frequently walk and stand; bend, twist, kneel. Requires accurate vision and focus. Requires flexibility, attentiveness, and effective oral and written communication.
