Position SummaryWhitefish School District seeks a High School Foreign Language Teacher to join a team dedicated to providing a deeper learning instructional program. Educators lead student success through strong school culture, rigorous curriculum, and data-driven practice, aligning with the District’s Strategic Plan and prioritizing student safety, health, and well‑being.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
- Valid Montana teaching license with Spanish K‑12 endorsement
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to teach all high school Spanish levels, including AP
- Proficiency with foreign‑language classroom technology and resources
- Willingness to lead extracurricular or co‑curricular student activities
- Commitment to 21st‑century skills such as collaboration and critical thinking
- Strong written and oral communication skills for diverse audiences
- Effective stress, time, and professional responsibilities management
- Commitment to maintaining student and employment confidentiality
- Plan and develop a course of study aligned with District guidelines and Montana state standards, including assessment and grading
- Use a variety of instructional strategies, including communicative competence and technology integration, to foster student engagement
- Participate in faculty meetings, conferences, professional development, and workshops
- Perform assessment and monitoring duties, conduct standardized testing per District policies, and maintain accurate records
- Oversee student safety and conduct behavioral management, discipline, counseling, and mandatory reporting as required
- Support extracurricular programming and assist in guiding students with college and course planning
- Maintain classroom and school equipment, including electronic devices and technology resources
- Develop students’ communicative skills in interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational modes using the target language as the primary medium of instruction
- Immerse students in target cultures, encouraging appreciation of diverse global perspectives
- Encourage active listening, speaking, and risk‑taking in language learning through community‑building activities and scaffolded tasks
- Integrate authentic resources and project‑based learning to enhance engagement and practice
- Prepare homework, assignments, and tests that support in‑school preparation and align with ACTFL proficiency standards
- Differentiated instruction for multiple academic levels within the same course
- Assessment and monitoring, including administering standardized tests and maintaining complete records
- Student supervision in common areas such as halls, study periods, and lunchrooms
- Behavioral management and discipline authority in collaboration with administration
- First‑responder counseling for academic or behavioral issues and coordination with specialists for learning disabilities or substance abuse
- Report mandatory cases of suspected child abuse and maintain confidentiality of student and employment matters
- Electronic and technology devices, copier, telephone/voicemail, fax
Employee works both inside and outside the school, meeting deadlines with severe time constraints and often working irregular or extended hours. Noise levels are typically moderate.
Physical DemandsEmployee frequently sits, walks, stands, twists, kneels, and lifts up to 20 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Hearing must allow conversation in quiet environments.
Mental/Motor DemandsEmployee may handle routine work, adapt quickly, and maintain attentiveness under time constraints. Frequent social interactions require oral and written communication.
Terms of EmploymentSchool‑year schedule as set by the Board of Trustees. Salary, benefits, and other working conditions are negotiated by the WEA and assigned by Administration.
EvaluationPerformance evaluated per Board Policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
