POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: School Psychologist

REPORTS TO: Director of Student Services / Building Principal

POSITION SUMMARY

Provide a full range of school psychological and psycho‑educational services to support the academic, behavioral, and social‑emotional competence of students ages 3‑18 across one or more sites within the Whitefish School District. Whitefish Public Schools seeks educators with a track record of raising student achievement to join a team dedicated to providing a deeper learning instructional program, utilizing data to drive daily practice, and supporting an inclusive school culture.

It is the expectation of the District that each staff member will put the safety, health, and well‑being of students at the forefront of all actions, job responsibilities, and decisions and perform all duties in alignment with the District’s Strategic Plan.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education:
  
  M.A., M.S., Ed.S., or Ph.D. in School Psychology from an accredited institution.
• Licensure/Certification:
  Valid Class 6 Specialist Certificate with a School Psychologist endorsement from the Montana Office of Public Instruction (or immediate eligibility for certification).

  Demonstrated ability to write reports and business correspondence; ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively in writing and orally to students, staff, parents, and the general public.
• Professional Relations:
  Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents, and the broader community.
• Operational Capacity:
  Ability to effectively manage time and responsibilities, interpret oral/written instructions, and maintain student confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Advanced training and/or verified field experience working within established Response to Intervention (RTI) and MTSS frameworks.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (including but not limited to)

• Assessment, Evaluation, & Case Management
  • Administer, score, and analyze a variety of psycho‑educational evaluations and supplemental assessments relevant to individual student needs.
  • Identify and assess the learning, development, adjustment, functional capabilities, and environmental factors affecting student performance.
  • Conduct Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and develop Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
  • Conduct Threat Assessments as needed to ensure campus safety.
  • Actively assist and participate in Child Find testing and screening activities.
• Consultation, Collaboration, & Team Participation
  • Participate in the Multi‑Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and Response to Intervention (RTI) processes, utilizing and communicating Curriculum‑Based Measurement (CBM) data and progress monitoring tools.
  • Participate in multi‑disciplinary referral and Special Education meetings to help determine appropriate student placement and contribute to the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Participate in Student Assistance Teams to collaborate on targeted pre‑referral interventions.
  • Consult with school staff, administration, and parents regarding learning styles, classroom management, student behavior modifications, and school‑wide needs to enhance student achievement.
  • Provide confidential information to teachers or principals when it is deemed to be in the student’s best educational and personal interests.
• Intervention & Student/Parent Support
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individual, group, or system‑level interventions addressing academic, social‑emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs.
