Database Administrator (MS SQL Server & Sybase)
Blutic is seeking an experienced Database Administrator proficient in MS SQL Server and Sybase to manage database design, maintenance, configuration, and high-availability operations. The ideal candidate will support large development teams, ensure 24x7 system uptime, and implement security controls for PHI/PII data compliance. This role requires expertise in performance tuning, backup/recovery, and multi-cloud environments (Azure/AWS/Snowflake), along with the ability to provide rotational on-call support.
This is a 100% remote opportunity.
Core Database AdministrationAdminister, install, migrate, patch, and maintain MS SQL Server and Sybase databases in development, test, and production environments.
Perform backup/recovery, high-availability setups (Always On, Replication, Log Shipping, Clustering), and disaster recovery planning.
Monitor and optimize database performance through indexing, statistics, query tuning, and partitioning.
Troubleshoot deadlocks, replication issues, and log shipping for both SQL Server and Sybase.
Manage security controls, user permissions, roles, and compliance (PHI/PII, corporate/legal guidelines).
Operational SupportProvide 24x7 rotational support (including weekends) for critical Tier-1/Tier-2 systems.
Monitor database activity using third-party tools (e.g., Autosys) and resolve issues proactively.
Analyze SQL Server/Sybase logs and application logs for anomalies.
Automate tasks using Power Shell, BASH, or Python.
Support hybrid environments (Azure, AWS, Snowflake, Netezza).
Familiarity with Postgres and Linux OS (shell scripting).
Implement best practices for database security, archiving, and access controls.
Partner with development teams for impact analysis of changes.
Document database environments, processes, and technical/management workflows.
Strong communication skills to work with IT teams, business stakeholders, and peers.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
- 5+ years in IT, with 5+ years as an MS SQL DBA and 2+ years in Sybase.
- Experience supporting 24x7 high-availability systems.
- Proficiency in: SQL Server (Always On, Performance Tuning, Windows Patching), Sybase (Replication, Log Shipping, Physical Database Support), Scripting (Power Shell/BASH/Python).
- Knowledge of scheduling tools (e.g., Autosys) and Linux shell scripting.
- Experience with Netezza and other RDBMS.
- Certifications in MS SQL Server, Sybase, or cloud platforms.
