WHITEFISH SCHOOL DISTRICT

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Whitefish School District is accepting applications for a Crossing Guard (2 positions: Muldown Elementary School and Whitefish Middle School), 1 hour per day (30 minutes before and after school). May be combined with other positions depending on schedule. Starting wage is $23.40 per hour.

AREA: Crossing Guard

REPORTS TO: Assistant Principal

SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENT:

Trains children to recognize and utilize natural and appropriate gaps in the traffic when attempting to cross a street, and in particular that street to which the guard is assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possesses high school diploma or its equivalent

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Successful experience working with children
  • First Aid/CPR training

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to):

  • Trains children in safe, appropriate travel to and from school, and assist them in safe crossing of designated areas.
  • Demonstrates enthusiasm and interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents, and the community.
  • Is a role model for children and a positive, productive representative of the school district.
  • Demonstrates appropriate, positive and welcoming etiquette.
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
  • Follows and honors state, county, federal and district policies and procedures.
  • Administers first aid to students and contacts school and emergency assistance agencies in the cases of serious illness or injury.
  • Create and maintain a clean, attractive, orderly, safe and efficient crossing environment.
  • Demonstrates the ability to both take direction, and to exercise personal decision-making skills in fulfilling the primary assignment.
  • Demonstrates responsibility, reliability, and dependability.
  • Observes and reports vehicle operators creating hazardous pedestrian conditions through violations of laws governing the operation of vehicles.
  • The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out essential job functions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This type of work involves walking, standing, and sitting for extended periods of time as required by situations of job position. Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral and written information, the manual dexterity to move related equipment, and the skills necessary to handle and work with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job.

May be required to lift or move up to 20 pounds. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Employed for prescribed term, salary, benefits and other working conditions to be determined by District Policy, Federal and State Law as well as appropriate funding from state, federal, and/or passage of levies.

Performance of said duties will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's Policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.
