A rewarding contract opportunity is available for dedicated Special Education Teachers seeking an impactful role for the academic year. Professionals are needed to provide itinerant substitute support in multiple specialized programs, serving students across Lehigh and Carbon Counties. This role adapts to the needs of different classrooms covering short- and longer-term assignments in autism support, emotional support, and multi-disabilities programs.
Please note:
candidates must reside within a 35-minute commute of assigned locations.
Key
Qualifications:
- Valid Pennsylvania Special Education certification (may be required depending on program assignment)
- Proven experience teaching in special education settings
- Comfortable providing direct instruction, implementing IEPs, and supporting students with diverse needs
- Effective classroom management and behavioral support abilities
- Capable of collaborating with support staff, related service providers, and families
- Flexibility and adaptability to work in varied program types and locations
- Preferred experience:
autism programming (ABA, BIPs), emotional/behavioral support, de-escalation and crisis prevention, trauma-informed care, adapted curriculum, and multiple disabilities support
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide specialized instruction in various programs such as Enhanced Autism, Enhanced Emotional Support, Functional/MDS Classrooms
- Adapt quickly to changing classroom environments and support students with differing academic, behavioral, and communication needs
- Serve as a substitute or long-term leave coverage teacher as assigned
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and safe classroom atmosphere
- Document progress and participate in IEP meetings as needed
