Experienced Registered Nurse - OR Internship (Winter 2025‑2026) – Lehigh Valley Health Network, Lehigh Valley, PA.

The OR Internship is a full‑time paid 24‑week program designed to train Graduate Nurses/Registered Nurses for the perioperative role. Interns receive didactic instruction and preceptored clinical experiences in various surgical specialties and campuses.

• Assist the operating physician with surgical tasks such as homeostasis, suturing, wound exposure, and patient positioning.
• Contribute to overall patient care before, during, and after surgery using technical and mechanical functions.
• Perform circulating functions: monitor, record, and communicate patient condition; manage overall nursing care pre‑, intra‑, and post‑procedure.
• Perform scrub functions: select and handle instruments and supplies used during the procedure.
• Initiate collaboration/communication with physicians and interdisciplinary team members; proactively resolve patient needs.
• Inspect sterile items for integrity; verify presence and appropriate color change of chemical indicators in all loads.
• Collect, analyze, and interpret data relevant to patient health or situations to determine diagnoses, problems, and issues.
• Control the operating room environment (temperature, warming blankets, irrigation fluids, sensory environment, traffic flow) while adhering to safety and sanitation policies.

• Specialized Diploma in Nursing.
• Less than 1 year of experience in an operating room or completion of a perioperative internship program.
• Ability to perform assessments and nursing functions as acquired in a basic nursing preparation program.
• Ability to plan, review, supervise, and inspect the work of others.
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Licensure: RN – Licensed Registered Nurse, PA;
  State of Pennsylvania.
• Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification.

• Experience in scrub procedures.
• CNOR – Certified Nurse Operating Room certification.
• CCICBPN – Certified Clinical Interfacing Certified Nurse, State of Pennsylvania.

• Lift and carry 40–50 lbs. (e.g., push/pull patients on beds, stretchers, lateral transfers).
• Frequent to continuous standing and walking; patient transporters may walk 8–10 miles per shift.
• May be required to kneel, bend, squat, perform CPR.
