Duties- If selected at the GS-11 level, duties will be performed in a developmental capacity.
- Responsible for the timely completion of monthly general ledger account analysis and journal voucher processing and quarterly financial statement analysis.
- Monitors and reports on various financial metrics.
- Identifies critical accounting issues and develops recommendations for corrective actions, and process improvement.
- Provides professional accounting advice and assistance to managers, supervisors, and other internal and external stakeholders.
- Provides audit support, including financial information in response to audit requests.

- This position requires DoD Financial Management Level 1 certification at GS-11 within 2 years in accordance with DoD Instruction 1300.26, DoD Directive 5118.03 and section 1599d of Title 10, U.S.C. Certification must be maintained and proficiency improved.
- This position requires DoD Financial Management Level 2 certification at GS-12 within 2 years in accordance with DoD Instruction 1300.26, DoD Directive 5118.03 and section 1599d of Title 10, U.S.C. Certification must be maintained and proficiency improved.
To qualify for an Accountant your resume and supporting documentation must support:
- Basic Requirement: A bachelor's degree or higher in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law. Applicants must submit a copy of their college transcripts from an accredited educational institution which reflects that an accounting or equivalent degree was conferred, and the date conferred.
Failure to submit transcripts may result in lost consideration. - Education Substitution (GS-11 Qualification Only):
Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Education must be from a college or university accredited by an organization approved by the U.S. Department of Education. Applicants must submit a transcript if using education to meet basic qualifications. To qualify based on education in lieu of specialized experience, candidates must possess a Ph.D. or equivalent Doctoral Degree or at least three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. - Twenty-four semester hours in accounting or auditing courses of appropriate type and quality. This can include up to 6 hours of business law.
- A certificate as Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor, obtained through written examination; or
- Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial coursework in accounting or auditing, e.g., 15 semester hours, but that does not fully satisfy the 24-semester-hour requirement of paragraph A, provided that the applicant has worked at the full-performance level in accounting, auditing, or a related field, and a panel of at least two higher level professional accountants or auditors has determined that the applicant has demonstrated a good knowledge of accounting and related fields.

Experience:
One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly related to this position. In addition to meeting the Basic Requirement above, to qualify for the GS-12 grade level, specialized experience must be at the GS-11 grade level or equivalent under other pay systems. To qualify for the GS-11 grade level, specialized experience must be at the GS-09 grade level or equivalent. - GS-11

Performs a variety of accounting and financial functions such as reviewing, analyzing, and reporting on financial data; identifying accounting, reporting, and system issues; reviewing records and reports to identify problems impacting accounting and financial operations; provides recommendations for corrective actions. - GS-12
