Position: Managing Technical Consultant, Fisheries Biologist (Fixed-Term)

As a Managing Technical Consultant, Fisheries Biologist (Fixed-Term) with ERM (full-time, one-year maternity coverage with potential to convert to regular full-time), you will deliver complex, multimillion-dollar projects that influence environmental outcomes ed in Whitehorse, Yellowknife, Calgary, Saskatoon, Vancouver, or Toronto, you will contribute to ERM’s Biodiversity & Ecosystems practice and support strategic client solutions and sustainable development across industries.

What You’ll Bring Required
  • B.Sc. in Fisheries Biology or related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Registered Professional Biologist (or eligibility to obtain designation)
  • 4+ years of consulting experience in freshwater fish and fish habitat assessment, sampling, aquatic biology, and water quality programs
  • Advanced written and oral communication skills, including technical reporting and permitting documentation
  • Strong knowledge of federal, provincial, and territorial regulations relevant to mining and oil & gas
  • Proven ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment, work independently with minimal supervision, and travel extensively
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a strong commitment to safety
  • Driver's License required: valid license or ability to operate a company vehicle due to travel across a large geographic area
  • Pleasure Craft Operator’s License
Preferred
  • M.Sc. in Fisheries Biology or related discipline
  • 6+ years of consulting experience in freshwater fish and fish habitat assessments, sampling, aquatic biology, and water quality programs
  • Experience in hydrology, instream flow assessment, hydroacoustic/bathymetric assessment, and/or fish habitat offsetting
  • Electrofishing certification, Intermediate First Aid, and/or Swiftwater Rescue Training
  • Experience mentoring junior staff
Key Responsibilities
  • Design and lead fish and fish habitat field programs across freshwater systems in Canada
  • Support planning, implementation, and monitoring of fisheries offsetting and compensation programs
  • Compile, manage, analyze, and interpret fish community, biology, and habitat data; support database management
  • Prepare technical documents including baseline studies, monitoring reports, impact assessments, permitting applications, and offsetting plans
  • Actively contribute to ERM’s Canadian and international aquatics/fisheries technical communities
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior biologists and field technicians
Compensation and Benefits

For the Managing Technical Consultant, Fisheries Biologist position, the anticipated annual base pay is CAD $95,651–$119,999. Actual pay depends on education, experience, skills, location, performance, and business needs. Bonus pay may be available in some cases. Benefits include paid time off, parental leave, medical, dental, vision, life, disability, AD&D insurance, retirement plans, and other eligible benefits. Bonuses and additional compensation are not guaranteed and subject to company policies.
