Position: Physician (Multiple Specialties)

Duties
  • Provide expert patient‑centered medical care, including evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and management of acute, chronic, and preventive health needs.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure safe, effective, and coordinated care, review conflicting medical evidence to reach final conclusions.
  • Perform specialty‑specific diagnostic, therapeutic, and/or surgical procedures consistent with training and credentialing, including adjudicating complex disability claims.
  • Contribute to teaching, mentorship, and professional development of medical staff, students, and trainees.
  • Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and clinical innovation initiatives to advance healthcare delivery.
Conditions of Employment
  • Selection may be subject to a probationary period.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Selective Service registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Special requirements for contact or control over Indian children per Public Law 101‑630.
  • May be required to receive Measles, Rubella, and seasonal influenza immunizations.
  • On‑call hours or standby duty may be required.
  • Must pass E‑Verify employment verification.
  • Must set up direct deposit for payment.
Background Investigation Requirement
  • Standard federal background investigation confirming identity, employment history, education, and other relevant information.
  • Completion of all required forms within five (5) calendar days of issuance.
  • Maintain communication with assigned Personnel Security Specialist.
Qualifications

To qualify, your resume must state sufficient experience and education to perform the duties of the specific position.

Basic Requirements
  • Degree
    :
    Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from a U.S. or Canadian school accredited by the appropriate accrediting bodies. A foreign medical degree must have equivalent accreditation or demonstrate equivalency via COMEA, CEFE, or U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.
  • Licensure
    :
    Current, active, full, unrestricted license or registration as a physician in a U.S. state, D.C., Puerto Rico, or U.S. territory.
  • Graduate Training
    :
    At least one year of supervised clinical experience (internship or first year of residency) in an accredited program.
Minimum Qualifications by Grade
  • GS‑13: 3 years of graduate training in the specialty or equivalent.
  • GS‑14: 4 years of graduate training in the specialty or equivalent.
  • GS‑15: 5 years of graduate training in the specialty or equivalent.
Financial Suitability Requirement
  • Must demonstrate financial responsibility and maintain good standing with creditors, with no substantial delinquent obligations.
Other Considerations

This position may be covered by a Bargaining Unit. Recruitment or relocation incentives may be authorized; a minimum 6‑month service agreement will be required. The Indian Health Service offers student loan repayment programs through IHS, NHSC, and HRSA. Candidates should be committed to improving the efficiency of the Federal government, upholding the rule of law and the Constitution.
