Amrize is looking for a Heavy-Duty Mechanic for a permanent position located in Nanaimo, BC. Heavy Duty Mechanics are responsible for equipment used in all areas of the shop and field.

• Perform maintenance and repairs on asphalt paving equipment such as pavers, rollers, milling equipment, excavators, bulldozers, loaders, heavy haul truck & trailer units, and other construction machinery.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools and equipment.
• Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance to identify and address potential problems before they escalated.
• Troubleshoot and repair engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension systems, and other components of heavy equipment.
• Replace faulty or worn‑out parts and components using appropriate tools and techniques.
• Follow manufacturer specifications, repair manuals, and technical guidelines during repairs and maintenance activities.
• Complete work orders and maintain accurate records of repairs, parts used, and labor hours.
• Collaborate with supervisors and equipment operators to identify equipment issues and provide guidance on preventive maintenance practices.
• Stay updated on the latest advancements in heavy equipment technology and repair techniques.
• Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas, and promote a culture of safety.

• Education:
  
  High school diploma or equivalent.
• Training/
  
  Certifications:
  
  Journeyperson or Red Seal certification as a Heavy-Duty Mechanic.
• Work Experience:
  
  Proven experience in the maintenance and repair of heavy equipment and machinery. Experience with asphalt paving equipment is an asset.
• Additional Requirements:
  • In-depth knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and other heavy equipment components.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment to identify and troubleshoot mechanical issues.
  • Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams, and schematics.
  • Excellent organizational and time‑management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • High attention to detail and a commitment to producing high‑quality work.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively communicate with team members and equipment operators.
  • Physical stamina to perform tasks that may involve heavy lifting and working in various weather conditions.
  • Adherence to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved PPE, including respirators. Clean shaven where respirator seals meet the face to pass fit tests.

• Pay Rate: $44.49/hour.
