Position Overview

The Race and Ethnic Studies Program in the College of Letters and Sciences at UW-Whitewater seeks an adjunct instructor beginning August 2026 in African American Studies (IC004). The successful candidate will teach two sections of Introduction to Black Culture and may take additional courses in future semesters.

Teaching Responsibilities
  • A 2/2 course load in African American Studies and other courses supporting the program.
  • Instructors may be asked to teach online, hybrid, or evening courses.
  • Service is not required, but participation in professional organizations is encouraged.
Conditions of Appointment

University of Wisconsin‑Whitewater does not sponsor H‑1B or other work‑authorization visas. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at hire and maintain authorization throughout the term. The university is not an E‑Verify employer; STEM extensions are not available.

Compensation

Contract salary is based on $1,666.67 per credit, estimated at $5,000 per course for two courses each semester. Benefits eligibility depends on course load and appointment length.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Substantial training in African American Studies within the social sciences or humanities and a commitment to interdisciplinary, intersectional, and decolonial approaches.
  • Teaching experience in the field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • ABD candidates or a Ph.D. in a relevant field.
  • Experience teaching online and/or in a hybrid format.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching and commitment to promoting the success of undergraduate students.
  • Active participation in the university community.

  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Willingness and ability to follow safety rules and regulations, including required training and drills.
