Job SummaryThe Education Librarian serves as liaison to all departments within the College of Education and Professional Studies (COEPS), including Communication Sciences and Disorders, Counselor Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Foundations, Military Science & Aerospace Studies, Kinesiology, and Special Education, and to the Department of Music. The librarian cultivates strong collaborative and consultative relationships with faculty and students, partners with library colleagues in daily work, professional development, and interactions with users, and supports the library’s instruction program, reference services, and collection development.
The position oversees the Pre‑K‑12 Curriculum Collections, reports to the Director of the Library, and works closely with the User Services Librarians.
- Serve as liaison between COEPS and the Department of Music to promote and sustain cooperative relationships.
- Participate in and develop information literacy instruction for affiliated departments and other areas as needed.
- Identify instruction needs in collaboration with faculty and library staff.
- Provide instruction sessions onsite or virtually, and develop instructional tools such as library user guides and tutorials.
- Design, teach, and assess instruction based on identified needs and objectives.
- Participate in assessment of student learning and other library assessment projects, using results to improve instruction and practice.
- Plan and deliver team‑based reference and research services to faculty, students, staff, and other users.
- Assist in developing the Library’s physical and online collections in assigned subject areas.
- Manage and develop the Curriculum Collections.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop library collections that support learning, teaching, and research.
- Develop expertise related to the University’s curriculum and the Library’s collections.
- Develop relationships with faculty, staff, students, and administrators to support the Library’s mission.
- Collaborate with university services and student organizations relevant to the Curriculum Collection.
- Coordinate outreach to middle and high schools and provide tailored instruction sessions.
- Assist in hiring and supervising student employees in liaison‑related areas.
- Participate in reference and instruction planning, serving on relevant committees.
- Investigate trends and recommend best practices in information literacy, instruction, and reference services.
- Perform other functions as requested by the Director of Andersen Library.
- May direct the day‑to‑day activities of student workers.
- Serves on committees to advance librarianship at campus, local, and national levels.
- Serves as a liaison to academic disciplines and other campus units.
- Initiates and solicits input to improve policies, procedures, and assessment tools.
- Serves as a resource to other librarians and staff outside the unit.
- Oversees day‑to‑day functions of library operations or services.
- Develops or coordinates specialized projects or programs.
- Provides specialized services utilizing expertise on a broad range of disciplines.
- Designs, develops, delivers, and assesses instruction in a variety of formats.
- Obtains materials, resolves issues, and answers highly specialized questions.
- Cultivates relationships with donors, collectors, vendors, and professional colleagues.
- Develops, curates, and manages collections.
- Master’s degree in library science or a relevant discipline, or coursework to completion of a degree.
- Teaching and instructional experience in a variety of formats.
- Experience with educational collections and technologies.
- Coursework or experience working in a Pre‑K‑12 education setting.
