Machine Operator
The Mold Change Mechanic is responsible for performing efficient mold changes, ensuring proper setup and alignment, and maintaining the operational readiness of equipment and tools in a plastic manufacturing environment. This role plays a key part in maintaining product quality, reducing downtime, and meeting production schedules while consistently following safety and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform mold changes on injection molding or similar manufacturing equipment in accordance with standard work instructions and production schedules.
- Remove and install molds safely and efficiently to ensure machines can operate correctly and safely.
- Align and secure molds accurately to ensure proper operation and minimize cycle time adjustments.
- Adjust auxiliary equipment, such as mold heaters, chillers, and cameras, to meet required specifications.
- Inspect molds and related components for damage, wear, or defects during removal and installation.
- Perform minor repairs or adjustments on molds and related equipment to ensure proper functionality.
- Use hand and power tools to complete mold change, setup, and minor maintenance tasks.
- Collaborate with maintenance technicians and other team members to address complex issues requiring advanced troubleshooting.
- Support production by ensuring molds and associated equipment are ready for operation and meet quality and safety requirements.
- Follow all safety procedures and company policies while working with machinery, tools, and equipment.
Essential Skills
- At least 1 year of experience changing molds in a molding or similar manufacturing environment.
- Experience with mold setup for injection molding or similar equipment.
- At least 1 year of experience using hand and power tools in an industrial or maintenance setting.
- Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately.
- Experience with maintenance repair tasks related to molding or production equipment.
- Ability to perform machine setup, including aligning and securing molds and adjusting auxiliary equipment.
- Strong attention to detail when inspecting molds and components for damage or wear.
- Ability to follow standard work instructions and production schedules.
- Basic troubleshooting skills for identifying and resolving minor equipment or mold issues.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working in the plastic industry or with injection molding equipment.
- Familiarity with auxiliary equipment such as mold heaters, chillers, and cameras.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multiskilled maintenance technicians and controls/automation personnel.
- Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills are a plus due to a strong Spanish-speaking workforce.
- Interest in growing within maintenance or technical roles in a stable and expanding manufacturing facility.
