Principal
Eligibility: DESE Educator's Licensure in Subject Area is Required; SEI Endorsement required for all classroom and subject area teachers PK-12 and special education.
Job Goals- To instruct students in accordance with the educational philosophy, course objectives, and curriculum of the District.
- To provide maximum learning opportunities for students in accordance with program objectives and each student's abilities, interests, and needs.
- To continuously develop his/her professional knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors in order to improve the educational opportunities of his/her students.
- Instruct students in accordance with the District's philosophy of education, policies, and curriculum.
- Direct the teaching/learning process toward the achievement of program goals, establish specific objectives for all lessons, and communicate these objectives to students.
- Prepare to instruct students assigned and have written documentation (e.g., plan book) of preparation.
- Support the learning needs of students in terms of their IEP goals and objectives on a continuous basis and seek assistance of District specialists as required.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques, materials, instructional media consistent with the needs, interests, and abilities of the students and the objectives of the course.
- Assess the progress of students in terms of course objectives on a continuous basis and provide progress reports as required.
- Provide instruction aligned with students' IEP in the areas of Transition Skills, Functional Academics, and Life Skills.
- Set a positive example for students and community by demonstrating respect and concern for students and an awareness of community values.
- Manage and fully utilize class time for instructional purposes.
- Establish and maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning and teaching.
- Assist administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and maintain order fairly and justly.
- Promote appropriate student behavior and attend to misbehavior when it occurs in the teacher's presence whenever it is brought to the teacher's attention.
- Takes reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- With support of the school's BCBA, implement individualized behavior plans and collect corresponding data.
- Conduct school-related activities in conformity with School Committee policies and administrative regulations.
- Cooperate with administrators and others in developing and supporting school activities and maintaining an atmosphere conducive to learning and teaching.
- Establish and maintain productive working relationships with colleagues and supervisors.
- Maintain accurate student records as required by law, School Committee policy, and regulations.
- Take and record attendance accurately in classes and/or homeroom; note excessive absenteeism to supervisory personnel and parents.
- Conduct routine assignments with accuracy, promptness and efficiency.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of materials and supplies used in carrying out assignments.
- Perform all other duties as required by school administration.
- Be available to students and parents for education-related purposes.
- Establish and maintain communication (oral and written) with students and their parents concerning academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
- Solicit appropriate help of parent(s) as required in the education of their children.
- Maintain good humor, enthusiasm, initiative, and integrity with students and parents and have a positive working relationship with them.
- Assist in development of curriculum and methods of course/student evaluation in cooperation with department colleagues and administration.
- Incorporate constructive feedback and suggestions for improvement made by supervisors.
- Continuously self-evaluate professional effectiveness in areas of curriculum, classroom performance, and teacher-student, staff and community relationships to maintain or improve professional competence.
- Keep abreast of new developments in instructional discipline(s) and successful educational practices and programs to improve the quality of educational experiences.
- Massachusetts Special Education Certification.
- Demonstrates ability to instruct school students and to maintain purpose and order in the classroom and all other areas of the school.
- Commitment to continuously improve professional competence.
- Demonstrates ability to design and deliver instruction to facilitate learning consistent with the philosophy, goals, curriculum, and policies as established by the School Committee.
Salary is listed in Unit A Teacher's Collective Bargaining Agreement.
