Diesel Technician - Whitman, MA (Serving South Shore School Districts)
Location: Whitman, MA
Schedule: Monday – Friday | 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Pay Range: $38.00 - $43.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications
First Student is hiring a Diesel Technician for our shop serving Plymouth, Freetown, and Duxbury from our Whitman, MA location.

As a Diesel Technician with First Student, you will help maintain and repair school buses to ensure safety and reliability.
Diesel Technician Responsibilities- Ensure vehicles are maintained and safe for passengers
- Diagnose and perform all phases of vehicle maintenance including brake repairs and inspections, engine tune‑ups, suspension repairs, drivetrain repairs, transmission repairs, clutch replacements, and other mechanical repairs
- Perform preventive maintenance (PMs), safety inspections, and annual maintenance inspections
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical systems
- Complete work orders accurately and maintain proper service documentation
- Assist with mobile emergency repair services when needed
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
- Follow all company safety and maintenance procedures
- Minimum of 5+ years of diesel, fleet, bus, truck, heavy equipment, or automotive maintenance and repair experience, or equivalent technical school education and experience
- Strong vehicle diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
- Valid driver's license required
- CDL Class B or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment (company‑paid training provided)
- Possession of a mechanic's tool set required
Willingness to participate in the ASE certification program (training, testing, and pay increases provided) - Strong computer and documentation skills
- School bus, fleet, transit, municipal, or heavy truck experience preferred
This position is considered safety‑sensitive and is subject to DOT drug testing.
