Full‑time position beginning at $45,000 with a Bachelor’s degree, or $51,500 with a Master’s degree. Increase on the WLEA salary schedule with previous experience.
WORK LOCATION:Whitmore Lake Middle/High School, grades 7-12
WHAT WE NEED:The Community‑based Instruction teacher is responsible for the instructional program and creation of the life skills curriculum for students functioning in the mild cognitive impairment range or those working toward a Certificate of Completion at Whitmore Lake Secondary School, grades 6‑12.
Job duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provides and coordinates the instructional program for students in the assigned area of responsibility, and evaluates results on a continuous basis
- Assesses students’ achievement and develops instructional strategies to meet the individual educational needs of students
- Plans curriculum and prepares lessons and other instructional materials to meet the individual needs of students, considering such factors as physical, emotional, and educational levels of development
- Leads the Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team meetings and prepares reports for assigned students
- Leads Individualized Education Program Team meetings. Develops and implements student IEP goals and services
- Participates in the implementation of health care procedures in accordance with administrative operating procedures
- Develops, implements, and coordinates behavior intervention plans
- Coordinate volunteer work‑related activities with local businesses
- Maintains Work Study records and actively supervises students in the community
- Works collaboratively and communicates with District and outside agency staff, students, parents/guardians
- Participates in district/building staff meetings, department meetings, staff development activities, etc.
- Maintains accurate attendance, service logs, and appropriate reports in accordance to state and federal law as required by the District
- Regularly documents student progress; uses student data to improve instruction
- Safely transports students to and from community activities
- Directs the activities of para professionals in all areas of instruction as well as other activities for assigned students
- Confers openly and frequently with parents and staff
- Performs billing functions for Medicaid reimbursement where applicable
- Performs such other tasks as may from time to time be assigned by the supervisor
- Endorsement in Cognitive Impairment (SA)
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Master’s degree is preferred
- Secondary teaching certificate is preferred
- Possess or have the ability to earn CPI certification annually
- Driver’s License;
Possess or have the ability to earn a Chauffeur's License
