School Social Worker
WHO WE ARE:
Whitmore Lake Public Schools serves approximately 800 students in preschool-12th grade and their families in Whitmore Lake and the surrounding area. Whitmore Lake Elementary School is a K-5 building. Bachelor’s degree Level 1 begins at $45,450. Master’s degree Level 1 begins at $52,015. Increase on the WLEA Salary schedule with previous experience.
WORK LOCATION:Whitmore Lake Elementary School
Supervision:Reports to building principal
WHAT WE NEED:A full‑time school social worker, school counselor, or school psychologist, who supports both special education students and students at‑risk of failure. Some responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assess social/emotional skills of students and determine eligibility for interventions as appropriate
- Develop, implement, monitor, and modify intervention plans based on behavior assessment of student as appropriate
- Complete IEP, MET, and Behavior Plans (FBAs)
- Generate written interpretation reports of evaluation data and explain results and educational implications to the parents and IEP teams
- Maintain treatment/progress notes and Medicaid documentation per professional standards
- Coordinate community agency supports to individual and small groups of students and their families
- Interview and counsel students and their families individually, in families, or in groups, assessing their situations, capabilities and needs as they pertain to the educational development of the students
- Proactively engage parents in examining how the school and family can effectively work together to improve the overall educational success of the student
- Communicate student progress with classroom teacher and building administrator
- Participate in Response to Intervention (RTI) meetings and regularly scheduled building and special education department staff meetings
- Utilize observational and data collection tools to develop personalized behavior plans for students
- Maintain confidentiality of student and family information
- Comply with federally mandated reporting process of suspected abuse/neglect
- Provide support to students and families relative to students’ educational progress, community advocacy, and referrals
- Lead evaluations for autism and emotional impairment eligibility
- Lead and complete threat assessments
- Assist in the response to building and community crises
- Create and follow up on the implementation of individual behavior plans
- Complete special education paperwork in a timely manner to maintain compliance with federal standards
- Facilitate communication and logistics for community agency programming in and out of the school building
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Licensed Master’s School Social Worker per R340.1792 and R340.1799f
- Candidates holding a Bachelor of Social Work who are willing to pursue a Master’s of Social Work may also apply.
- Alternatively, candidates holding a School Psychology or Counseling degrees may also apply per R340.1701c and 34 CFR §300.34
- Full approval for Michigan School Social Workers is preferred
- Experience with school-aged individuals
- Must be eligible to work in the United States
- Must have good organizational skills
- Must have good written and verbal language skills
- Good interpersonal skills with children and adults
- Ability to travel to different work locations
- Regular and predictable attendance
- Possess or willing to pursue CPI certification
- Commitment to work collaboratively and establish and maintain trusting, effective relationships with staff, students, and parents
