WHO WE ARE:

Whitmore Lake Public Schools serves approximately 800 students in childcare through 12th grade and their families in Whitmore Lake and the surrounding area.

Go Like the Wind Montessori School, a part of Whitmore Lake Public Schools, is a diverse community of learners and educators. Our dedicated team provides an authentic Montessori education where children from birth to 6th grade can become independent thinkers, collaborative learners, creative problem solvers, and compassionate citizens. Since being founded in 1987, GLTW has been a not‑for‑profit, tuition‑based school. In 2022, it merged with Whitmore Lake Public Schools to become a public Montessori school.

The program remains tuition‑based for infant, toddler, and young primary students (3‑ & 4‑year‑olds) with a tuition‑free Magnet program for grades K‑6th.

WLPS’ secondary building houses Whitmore Lake High School (grades 9‑12) and Whitmore Lake Middle School (grades 6‑8). We are dedicated to providing exceptional, personalized education to all. At the heart of all we do is our tight‑knit Trojan community, including our students, their families, and our staff. We work hard and take pride in making every day a great day to be a Trojan.

Go Like the Wind Montessori School & Whitmore Lake Middle & High School

A full‑time school social worker who supports both special education students and students at risk of failure, in both our infant‑6th‑grade Montessori program and students in grades 6 and 7. Some responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Assess social/emotional skills of students and determine eligibility for interventions as appropriate
• Develop, implement, monitor, and modify intervention plans based on behavior assessment of student as appropriate
• Complete IEP, MET, and Behavior Plans (FBAs)
• Generate written interpretation reports of evaluation data and explain results and educational implications to the parents and IEP teams
• Maintain treatment/progress notes and Medicaid documentation per professional standards
• Coordinate community agency supports to individual and small groups of students and their families
• Interview and counsel students and their families individually, in families, or in groups, assessing their situations, capabilities and needs as they pertain to the educational development of the students
• Proactively engage parents in examining how the school and family can effectively work together to improve the overall educational success of the student
• Communicate student progress with classroom teacher and building administrator
• Participate in Student Success Team and Crisis Team meetings and regularly scheduled building and special education department staff meetings
• Deliver evidence‑based social‑emotional learning instruction (e.g., TRAILS) to students in classroom, large‑group, and small‑group settings to promote social, emotional, and behavioral success.
• Utilize observational and data collection tools to develop personalized behavior plans for students
• Maintain confidentiality of student and family information
• Comply with federally mandated reporting process of suspected abuse/neglect
• Provide support to students and families relative to students’ educational progress, community advocacy, and referrals
• Lead evaluations for autism and emotional impairment eligibility
• Leads and completes threat assessments
• Assists in the response to building and community crises
• Create and follow up on the implementation of individual behavior plans
• Complete special education paperwork in a timely manner to maintain compliance with federal standards
• Facilitate communication and logistics for community agency programming in and out of the school building
• Perform other duties as assigned

• Licensed Master’s School Social Worker per R340.1792 and R340.1799f
• Candidates holding a Bachelor of Social Work who are willing to pursue a Master’s of Social Work may also apply.
