Class 1 Machine Tool Electrician

The Class 1 Machine Tool Electrician installs, maintains, and troubleshoots electrical and automation systems used in industrial machinery, production lines, and control systems. This role focuses on building and wiring control panels and automation equipment, working with PLCs, sensors, motors, and control panels, while adhering to electrical safety standards and industrial wiring practices.

• Read, interpret, and build to electrical prints and schematics for industrial machinery and automation systems.
• Build and wire main electrical panels, HMIs, junction boxes, and related control components.
• Use shop tools, including saws, drill presses, and other standard fabrication equipment, to support electrical builds.
• Run cables using duct, tray, b-line, and other cable management systems to ensure neat and safe installations.
• Perform electrical builds for conveyors and robot cells, including power and control wiring.
• Troubleshoot finished projects to diagnose and resolve electrical and automation issues.
• Work with robotics systems, including wiring, dressing cables, and integrating robot controllers.
• Drive a Hi-Lo (forklift) as needed to move materials and equipment safely around the shop.
• Run high-voltage cables up to 480V in compliance with electrical safety and industrial standards.
• Run low-voltage cables from approximately 12V and above, including AC circuits and control wiring.
• Run robot cables from controllers to robots and associated devices, ensuring proper routing and protection.
• Build and set up cable tray systems for overhead and structural cable routing.
• Run overhead low- and high-voltage cables throughout the facility and equipment installations.
• Wire ethernet and other miscellaneous communication and control cables to support automation networks.
• Run hoses through tooling and other required areas to support pneumatic or hydraulic systems associated with machinery.

• At least 3 years of experience as an industrial or machine tool electrician.
• Hands-on experience working with PLCs in industrial automation environments.
• Practical experience with sensors, motors, and running conduit in production or machine build settings.
• Strong ability to read, interpret, and build to electrical prints and schematics.
• Proficiency in building and wiring main electrical panels, HMIs, junction boxes, and control panels.
• Experience with conduit installation and bending in industrial applications.
• Knowledge of industrial wiring practices and electrical safety standards for low- and high-voltage systems.
• Ability to troubleshoot electrical and automation systems on completed projects.
• Experience with robotics wiring and cable dressing for robot cells.
• Capability to run high-voltage cables up to 480V safely and effectively.
• Capability to run low-voltage and AC cables for control and power circuits.
• Ability to use common shop tools such as saws, drill presses, and related equipment.
• Comfort with driving a Hi-Lo (forklift) in a shop environment.

• Experience with industrial machine tool electrical work, including conveyors and robot cells.
• Familiarity with cable management systems such as duct, tray, and b-line.
• Ability to build and install cable tray systems for overhead cable routing.
• Experience wiring ethernet and other communication cables for industrial networks.
• Ability to route hoses through tooling and machinery to support auxiliary systems.
• Background in industrial environments with distinct electrical, mechanical, and shipping/receiving areas.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to clean, organized wiring and installations.

The role is based in a very clean, organized shop environment that includes dedicated staging, electrical, mechanical, and shipping/receiving areas. The front of the building features a long hallway of offices, and the upper level houses the engineering department, encouraging collaboration between shop and engineering teams. Work is performed entirely in-house with no travel, using standard shop tools, cable trays, ducts, and industrial equipment in a professional, production-oriented setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Whitmore Lake, MI.

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $30.00/hr individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
