Student Success Coach II - District Pool

Student Success Coach II’s (SSC II) assist RHC students with navigating the process into college and completion of their educational goal. The role includes supporting students’ adjustment to academic expectations and the culture of college life. SSC II’s may work within any Division in Academic Affairs or Student Services, collaborating with managers, faculty, and students while being overseen by a manager. This position can perform the work encompassed by the SSC I position.

These are temporary positions funded by grants and may involve up to 19 hours of work per week.

Responsibilities
  • Closely monitor and communicate consistently with a caseload of students.
  • Communicate via face‑to‑face interactions, phone, email, texting, and the internet as necessary.
  • Act as an informed referral source throughout the academic year, including accompanying students to various resources as needed.
  • Support students in acquiring and understanding regular course status reports and progress.
  • Guide and collaborate with students to follow through on tasks in order to benefit from the resources and their professors.
  • Participate in or lead program seminars, workshops, and other presentations.
  • Coach students on topics that promote success, including time management, study skills, and exam preparation.
  • Maintain detailed student contact logs in the database.
  • Collaborate with fellow Student Success Coach I’s and II’s to develop supplemental projects.
  • Initiate appropriate individual projects based on student and program needs.
  • Attend regular meetings and training sessions.
  • Support activities of the assigned program as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High‑school graduation or GED equivalent.
  • Completion of a minimum of 30 undergraduate units in any discipline.
  • Any degree obtained outside the United States, including Canada and the United Kingdom, must be evaluated by an Evaluation Service prior to hire and accompanied by transcripts.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience making group presentations and working within a team. Strong knowledge of the community college system and its mission.
  • Bachelor’s degree, or acceptance to, enrollment in, or recent completion of a graduate program in any discipline.
Knowledge and Abilities
  • Excellent communication skills, including listening, responding, presenting, and resolving conflict.
  • Understanding of the needs of an predominantly underprepared student population.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to work with committees and plan workshops.
  • Capacity for discretion, diplomacy, and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated record of leadership, maturity, and academic excellence.
  • Ability to learn RHC’s processes, policies, support systems, and website tools.
  • Knowledge of research techniques.
