Student Success Coach II

Basic Function/Definition

Student Success Coach II (SSC II) assists RHC students with navigating college processes and completing educational goals. SSC II may work within any division in Academic Affairs or Student Services, collaborates with managers, faculty, and students, and is overseen by a manager.

Salary Range: $23.00 per hour (up to 19 hours per week).

Hours:

Monday through Thursday 8:00 am – 7:00 pm and Friday 8:00 am – 2:00 pm; days and hours may vary.

• Closely monitor and communicate consistently with a caseload of students.
• Communicate via face‑to‑face, phone, email, texting, or internet as needed.
• Act as an informed referral source throughout the academic year, accompanying students to resources as needed.
• Support students in acquiring and understanding course status reports and success metrics.
• Guide/collaborate with students to follow through on tasks to benefit from resources and professors.
• Participate in or lead program seminars, workshops, and presentations.
• Coach students on effective time‑management, study skills, and exam preparation.
• Maintain detailed student contact logs in the database.
• Collaborate with Fellow SSC I’s and II’s to develop supplemental projects.
• Initiate appropriate individual projects based on student and program needs.
• Attend regular meetings and training sessions.
• Support activities of the assigned program as needed.

• High‑school graduation or GED.
• Completion of a minimum of 30 undergraduate units in any discipline.
• Demonstrated record of leadership, maturity, and academic excellence.

• Intent to pursue a career in higher education and work directly with high school or college students in one‑on‑one or small group settings.
• Availability to work in‑person 14–19 hours per week.
• Experience making group presentations, working in a team.
• Knowledge of the community college system and its mission.
• Bachelor's degree and acceptance, enrollment, or recent completion of a graduate program preferably in counseling, education, social work, or related discipline.

• Excellent communication skills: listening, responding, presenting, conflict resolution.
• Understanding of the needs of an underprepared student population.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse populations of students, faculty, and staff.
• Ability to work with committees and plan workshops.
• Capacity for discretion, diplomacy, and confidentiality.
• Ability to learn RHC’s processes, policies, and support systems and web tools.
• Knowledge of research techniques.
