Our MissionThe Sanitation Districts protect public health and the environment through innovative and cost-effective wastewater and solid waste management, and in doing so convert waste into resources such as recycled water, energy and recycled materials.
Job SummaryUnder the general supervision of a Supervising Engineer, the incumbent primarily performs duties related to the management of construction contracts for large-scale sewer, landfill, and treatment plant projects.
Key responsibilities include:
- Overseeing construction activities on site
- Investigating and resolving construction and engineering problems
- Reviewing and negotiating contractor extra work claims and change proposals
- Reviewing construction project schedules
- Tracking work progress and preparing pay estimates
- Evaluating operational impacts of project progress and recommending actions
- Coordinating with District departments and external agencies to ensure satisfactory progress
- Preparing monthly project progress reports
All candidates must possess a valid California Class C driver license and meet the specific requirements for the applicable level:
- Engineering Associate II, III
- Option 1 - Bachelor's and Master's in a pertinent engineering discipline from an accredited university.
- Option 2 - Bachelor's in a related science with an Engineer-In-Training certificate and a Master's in a pertinent engineering discipline.
- Option 3 - Two years of professional engineering experience after earning a bachelor's degree in engineering.
- Engineer
- Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer with the California Board.
- Option 1 - Six years of professional engineering experience after earning a bachelor's degree.
- Option 2 - Master's degree and three years of professional experience.
- Option 3 - PhD and two years of professional experience.
- Strong technical writing, analytical, and project management skills.
- Self-motivated and able to manage contracts through completion.
- Ability to work on site in outdoor environments, including night work, overtime, and overnight stays.
- Five or more years of construction management experience.
- A master's degree in a pertinent engineering field.
- Certified Associate Construction Manager and/or Certified Construction Manager certification.
- Experience with cost estimating, scheduling, and construction administration for large industrial facilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, Oracle Unifier, and/or Pro Core.
- Experience handling resident complaints and managing sewer repair projects.
- Ability to be on call during nights and weekends as needed.
- Capacity to transition between office tasks (RFIs, change orders, claims, closeouts) and on-site oversight.
