Job Description

The Inpatient Phlebotomist is responsible for performing blood drawing, including venipuncture and capillary punctures, as well as accessioning and processing specimens. The role requires the ability to perform all phases of blood collections within normal time limits, considering the age and specific needs of patients ranging from infancy through adulthood.

Responsibilities

* Perform venipuncture and capillary punctures on patients of all age groups.

* Accession and process blood specimens accurately and efficiently.

* Work independently during early morning runs.

* Cover morning runs, managing a typical census of 50 patients between 4:00 AM and 9:00 AM.

* Adapt to a high-volume draw environment in an inpatient setting with 510 beds.

Essential Skills

* California State CPT certification.

* BLS AHA certification.

* 2+ years inpatient experience.

* Experience in obtaining blood samples by venipuncture and capillary puncture from adults, children, infants, and neonates.

* Experience in an acute care hospital or five years of ambulatory phlebotomy experience required.

* Familiarity with AIDET / AHEART patient-care standards preferred.

Additional

Skills & Qualifications

* Neonatal experience strongly preferred.

* Comfortable with high-volume draws.

* Experience in drawing patients with special needs.

Work Environment

The position is based in an inpatient setting with a 510-bed facility. The work schedule primarily covers weekend morning runs with a typical window from 4:00 AM to 9:00 AM. The role requires flexibility for variable shifts, with potential coverage up to 7 days a week. The work environment is high-volume, particularly during morning draws, and currently uses Sunquest information systems, with a planned transition to EPIC within one year.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Whittier, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
