Responsibilities- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians.
- Provide first aid and emergency care to students.
- Monitor the student's health and report any changes to the healthcare team.
- Conduct health screenings and assessments.
- Assist with daily living activities for the student with special needs.
- Educate the student and staff on health and wellness topics.
- Maintain and update the student's health records.
- Collaborate with parents, teachers, and healthcare providers to support the student's health.
- Maintain security of school health supplies and medication.
- Provide follow‑up evaluations on the student as required.
- Record immunizations, health findings, and other relevant health data.
- Identify abnormal growth and development, symptoms of disease, and discuss with parents.
- Develop positive working relationships.
- Support the student's medical needs during transport as applicable.
- Utilize the nursing process to plan, implement, and evaluate the student's care needs.
- Perform interventions, treatments, and medication administration according to the identified priorities as outlined in the Individualized Healthcare Plan (IHP).
- Monitor and document the effectiveness of interventions, treatments, and medications.
- Coordinate and facilitate services requested between the school, local health agencies, and other community resources to meet the student's needs.
- Communicate with school district personnel about the student's plan of care/IHP.
- Notify District School Nurse/Amergis Supervisor/Parent/Physician as outlined in the IHP regarding changes in the student's condition and physician notifications to obtain necessary orders.
- Evaluate and assure student safety at all times.
- Adhere to Amergis Healthcare and school district policies.
- Maintain accuracy in student health records.
- Support professional practice by observing the Nurse Practice Act, Standards of Nursing Practice, Standards of Patient Care, Standards of accrediting body (The Joint Commission), State laws, Educational Codes, Federal Laws as described in the ADA and IDEA, Patient Bill of Rights, and Amergis Healthcare and school district policies.
- Participate in student care conferences/Individualized Education Program (IEP) at the request of the school district.
- Direct questions regarding orders and changes in condition to a Supervising RN (District Nurse and/or Clinical Supervisor).
- Perform other duties as assigned/necessary.
- Graduate of an accredited registered, practical, or vocational nursing program.
- Licensed as a Licensed Practical, Licensed Vocational, or Registered Nurse in the state of California.
- One year of pediatric experience.
- Current PPD or Chest X‑Ray.
- Current BLS card.
- Previous experience in a school or pediatric setting is preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle emergencies calmly and efficiently.
- Knowledge of state health regulations and school policies.
- Compassionate and patient‑focused approach.
- Considerable knowledge of medical disorders and treatment.
- Considerable knowledge of child growth and development.
- Some knowledge of public health problems and procedures for treatment in coordination with other health and social service agencies.
- Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required.
- Computer proficiency preferred.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Complies with accepted professional standards and practices.
- Willingness to participate in skill advancement, if applicable.
- Participation and completion of Amergis’ Competency program.
- Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation).
- Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements.
- Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to the job site.
