  70E, forklift, man‑lift and scissor‑lift equipment operation.

Progressively perform installation, maintenance, and repair of instrumentation, computer process control, and electrical equipment and systems.

• Assembles, installs, maintains, calibrates, troubleshoots, and repairs electrical, electronic, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, digital, and analog control equipment and systems.
• Operates, maintains, calibrates, and repairs pneumatic, electronic, and computerized testing and measuring instruments.
• Maintains records and prepares reports of maintenance, calibration, and repair activities.
• Reads, interprets, and prepares schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams, blueprints, P&IDs, loop sheets, sketches, and specifications.
• Orders and tracks parts, supplies, materials, and equipment.
• Instructs apprentices or lower‑level staff on technical proficiency, safe work practices, and troubleshooting.
• Performs trade‑related mathematical calculations.
• Maintains shop areas, tools, and equipment.
• Drives to and inspects construction sites and equipment installations.

• Valid California Class C Driver License.
• Four (4) years of Electrical & Instrumentation Technician experience performing progressively responsible installation, maintenance and repair work on instrumentation, computer process control and electrical equipment and systems.
• Substitutions:
  • 12 semester units of college coursework, or completion of one year of a two‑year degree in instrumentation, electronics or electrical technology, or related field may substitute for one year of experience.
  • Completion of a two‑year degree or certification program may substitute for two years of experience.

• Knowledge of NFPA
  70E safe work practices.

• Electrical theories and principles (e.g., AC/DC power systems, circuit protection, grounding, motor control fundamentals) and operation and characteristics of common electrical components.
• Electronic, digital, and analog control equipment and programming.
• Instrumentation and process control systems, including variables, PLCs, DCS systems, PID behavior.
• Mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems and their fluid and mechanical principles.
• Plant operational systems and power‑generation processes and how components interact.
• Maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, testing methods and diagnostic tools.
• Applicable safety practices and regulatory requirements (e.g., NFPA 70/70E electrical safety, OSHA standards, arc‑flash protocols, lockout/tagout).

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair electrical, electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical control systems.
• Install, maintain, calibrate, and adjust components such as sensors, transmitters, PLC/DCS hardware, protective relays.
• Interpret and prepare technical documentation.
