Position Summary
Supervises juveniles held in secure detention and assists in providing services for their care. Work involves maintaining a secure and safe environment; enforcing the policies and procedures established for the Northwest Regional Juvenile Detention Center; preparing and maintaining reports and documentation on facility activities in accordance with laws and regulations governing secure detention of juveniles.
Responsibilities- Admits and discharges referred juveniles, records all appropriate information for each individual, and maintains required documentation
- Enforces regulations and disciplinary policies related to the security and operation of the facility
- Complies with all procedures and schedules for meals, laundry, cleaning, maintenance, and inspections
- Identifies and takes appropriate action with all juveniles that appear mentally disturbed or physically ill
- Provides and supervises juveniles' access to educational and recreational activities
- Provides transportation to juveniles for all scheduled court appearances and court-ordered appointments
- Receipts, verifies, and dispenses resident medications as instructed
- Observes and documents individual and group behaviors on a daily basis
- Distributes meals, clothing, and linen
- Performs related duties as required or directed
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to meet one of the following criteria:
- Documentary evidence of two (2) years of post‑secondary education in an accredited institution with emphasis in a human services or criminal justice related field
- Two years (2) of full‑time law enforcement experience or civilian correctional officer experience
- A combination of experience and/or training equivalent to two (2) years in juvenile justice related issues
- No felony convictions in any jurisdiction unless the judgment or conviction has been reversed or a complete pardon has been granted
Wage shown includes $2.05 per hour in lieu of benefits.
Paid Time Off (PTO) accrues at 6.4 hours per pay period (20.8 days per year), with a maximum accrual rate of 35.75 days per year.
Eleven paid holidays:
New Year's Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Spring Holiday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, the Day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve.
