Degree Completion Specialist

Performs degree reviews, works with students and their faculty advisors concerning course scheduling when problems occur, supervises over-all student record management, control and security, may check athletic eligibility. Performs responsible administrative and complex clerical duties assisting the Registrar in overall operations of the office. Reports directly to the Associate Registrar and Registrar.

Assists with registrations and implementation and maintenance and training/updates in on-line degree system, and performs other related duties as assigned. Performs other related record checks, such as B-On Time;
Excessive Hours, $1,000 tuition rebate eligibility and core completion. May assist with new student orientations, and/or faculty staff training. Must be able to play a critical role in the planning, organizing and production of the student participation in graduation. Supervises the clerical work of several full-time and part-time employees. There is wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment. Varied problems require solution or informed referral to others for resolution.

Must have the physical ability to carry work supplies and to carry files to and from the vault.

At least five years of progressively responsible experience in academic administration, preferably with a State of Texas college or university. Requires two to three years prior secretarial/clerical experience with some course work at the university level. Degree Works and Banner student information system software experience a plus.

Must have a good knowledge of student enrollment procedures, university policies, regulations, and degree requirements and admission and transfer credit criteria. Must be knowledgeable in standard office practices and procedures and in the use of personal computers and commonly used office software programs, such as Word, Excel and Outlook. Must be committed to continuous knowledge growth and technology use for maximizing efficiency of work performed.

Must be able to lead the degree review team members/specialists in a positive manner, and provide upbeat leadership and work ethic. Requires the ability to generate and manipulate reports in Excel, and maintain a calendar and timeline to pace and schedule the work of the Degree Review Team and meet timeline goals.

Bachelor's Degree in counseling, accounting, or business is preferred. At least 2 years college work required. High school graduation plus equivalent academic area or college/university experience may be acceptable.

Must be able to type and have computer and word processing skills and 10-key operation by touch. Diplomatic interpersonal and telephone skills required to handle complex academic situations, and to assist international students with a limited understanding of the American system of higher education. Must have the ability to work well with people, to include interacting with faculty and administrators as well as students.

Must be able to establish and maintain good working relationships with many constituents. Must have strong public relations skills in dealing with the public and students with a compassionate and caring customer service attitude. Considerable knowledge and use of good oral and written English and strong communication skills. Ability to proofread and correct own work and pay strong attention to detail required.

Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality of administrative and student records. This position requires some evening and weekend work and occasional travel to professional conferences, training, or workshops.

Requires the ability to maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Must adhere to University's core values:
