Primary PurposeProvide students with learning activities and experiences that foster intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Supervise students in raising and showing animals, lead LDE and CDE contests, and teach agricultural classes in plant science, animal science, and ag mechanics.
Qualifications- Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university and a valid Texas teaching certificate with Vocational Agricultural Science endorsements; OR Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Education Science with agriculture work experience and/or professional license.
- Special Knowledge/
Skills:
Knowledge of assigned subjects; general knowledge of curriculum and instruction; ability to instruct students and manage behavior; strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate with department, parents, and outside agencies. - Experience: At least one year of student teaching or approved internship; preferred candidates with at least five years as an ag‑science teacher.
Instructional Strategies
- Develop and implement lesson plans that meet district curriculum requirements and provide written evidence of preparation.
- Prepare lessons accommodating diverse learning styles.
- Present subject matter per Texas Education Agency guidelines and district policies.
- Use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, materials, and equipment tailored to student needs.
- Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instruction.
- Collaborate with special education teachers to modify curricula for special education students via IEPs.
- Work with staff to determine instructional goals and methods.
- Supervise teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
- Use technology to enhance teaching and learning.
Student Growth and Development
- Help students analyze and improve study habits.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
- Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities and sponsor approved outside activities.
- Serve as a positive role model supporting the district mission.
- Supervise students in field activities and experiences.
- Act as advisor to the FFA program and Junior FFA program.
Classroom Management and Organization
- Create a conducive learning environment suitable for students’ development.
- Manage student behavior following the Student Code of Conduct and handbook.
- Take precautions to protect students, equipment, and facilities.
- Assist in selection of books, equipment, and instructional materials.
- Train Leadership Development and Career Development teams.
- Maintain online record‑keeping systems.
Communication
- Establish and maintain communication with parents, students, principals, and teachers through conferences.
- Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
Professional Growth and Development
- Participate in staff development activities to improve job‑related skills.
Other
- Stay informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
- Compile and file required reports and records.
- Attend faculty meetings and serve on staff committees.
- Maintain regular attendance.
Working Conditions
- Maintain emotional control under stress.
- Stand, stoop, bend, pull, push frequently; move heavy equipment on Ag Facility.
