Purpose:
The Special Education Instructional Coach supports teachers and staff in delivering high-quality, compliant, and student-centered instruction for students receiving special education services. This role focuses on improving instructional practices, strengthening IEP development and implementation, and supporting effective behavior systems to ensure student success across specialized settings.
Bachelor’s degree in Special Education
Valid state teaching certificate with Special Education endorsement
Special Knowledge or SkillsDemonstrated knowledge of IDEA-B, MTSS, and state-specific regulations
Experience writing and implementing IEPs, conducting ARD/IEP meetings, and supporting compliance
Training in evidence-based instructional frameworks
Professional development in behavior intervention, AAC, or assistive technology
Preferred Education & CredentialsAdvanced certifications such as Educational Diagnostician, LSSP/School Psychologist, or Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)
Reading or dyslexia-related certifications
ExperienceThree-5 years as a successful special education teacher
Major Responsibilities Instructional Support- Provide job-embedded coaching to teachers through modeling, co-teaching, observation, and feedback
- Support the implementation of research-based instructional strategies aligned to student IEP goals
- Assist teachers in designing differentiated instruction to meet diverse learning and behavioral needs
- Analyze student data with teachers to inform instructional decisions and progress monitoring
- Plan, facilitate, and support collaborative PLCs focused on student outcomes, instructional practices, and problem-solving
- Guide teams in using data to drive instruction and adjust supports for students
- Build teacher capacity through ongoing professional learning and reflective practices
- Support teachers with IEP development, documentation, and progress monitoring to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements
- Provide guidance on aligning IEP goals with age appropriate standards and individualized student needs
- Assist with organization and completion of special education paperwork and timelines
- Assist and support teachers in collecting and analyzing data related to the Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) process
- Collaborate with teachers to develop and implement effective behavior intervention plans (BIPs)
- Support staff in the continuous analysis of behavior data and the adjustment of interventions accordingly
- Provide coaching on proactive classroom management and de-escalation strategies
- Partner with campus and district leaders to ensure alignment of instructional and compliance practices
- Serve as a resource and liaison between special education and general education staff
- Support onboarding and mentoring of new special education teachers
- Strong interpersonal and coaching skills with the ability to build trust and support teachers and aides
- Understanding of differentiated instruction and inclusive practices
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail in compliance matters
- Ability to analyze data and translate it into actionable instructional plans
- Commitment to creating safe, inclusive, and high-expectation learning environments
