We’re a nonprofit environmental education facility that connects people with the natural environment of Texas. Our visitors come from across the country and around the world, and our Education and Visitor Guides help make their experiences welcoming, interesting, and memorable.

You might lead a field trip, help a family explore an exhibit, or introduce visitors to the wildlife around them.
Your primary responsibilities are leading educational programs and engaging visitors of all ages.

• Welcome and engage visitors. Start conversations, answer questions, and help guests explore our living and nonliving exhibits.
• Lead learning experiences. Conduct assigned programs and tours, including field trips, camps, birthday party programs, and community outreach.
• Manage your assigned area. Independently run a program station or maintain visitor-area coverage after training, staying attentive to guests and coordinating coverage with your team.
• Share live-animal experiences. Handle animals for educational programs and visitor interactions only after completing required training and receiving authorization from RBNC leadership.
• Help keep River Bend ready for visitors. Pitch in with cleaning, restocking, setup, cleanup, opening and closing duties, and admissions or gift shop transactions as assigned.
• Learn and follow through. Participate in training, follow safety procedures, complete assigned tasks and records, and communicate professionally with coworkers and supervisors.

• High school diploma or GED required; additional education beyond high school or substantial relevant work experience preferred.
• Experience working with children in a learning environment or leading programs and tours preferred.
• Enjoyment of working with people of all ages, including young children, teenagers, adults, and older adults
  .
• A welcoming approach to people from different backgrounds and an ability to engage visitors across language barriers through patience, clear communication, gestures, and visual examples.
• Strong communication skills, dependable attendance, and the ability to manage a station independently after training.
• Interest in nature and environmental education, with an ability to learn our exhibits, programs, and procedures.
• Basic computer skills and the ability to learn Google Workspace and required workplace systems.
• Kindness, respect, initiative, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Schedules may include weekdays, weekends, and evenings. Programs, outreach, events, meetings, and required training may take place outside public operating hours.

River Bend closes for some national holidays;
Easter, Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve (pm), Christmas, and New Year’s Day.

This role requires the following:

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer for extended periods.
• Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors and tolerate exposure to outdoor elements during all seasons.

Education Director, with additional direction from the Operations and Finance Director or Executive Director as needed.
