What You Will Do:
We are seeking a Materials & Repair Engineer to join our Engineering team supporting the repair and restoration of critical gas turbine engine components for Pratt & Whitney Canada engine platforms, including PT6, PW100, PW300, and PW500 engines.
In this role, you will serve as a key technical resource for advanced coating and repair processes applied to high-temperature engine hardware, including turbine vanes, vane segments, stators, and combustor components. You will work closely with manufacturing, special process teams, quality, and engineering stakeholders to solve complex material challenges, improve component durability, and develop innovative repair solutions that extend component life and reduce maintenance costs.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical support for Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) aluminum coating and platinum plating operations.
- Evaluate, select, and optimize materials and special processes used in component repair, including:
- Nickel- and cobalt-based superalloys
- Brazing and diffusion bonding
- Aluminide and protective coating systems
- Thermal spray and plasma spray technologies
- Heat treatment processes
- Chemical cleaning and surface preparation methods
- Develop, validate, and qualify new repair schemes and process improvements in accordance with engineering, regulatory, and customer requirements.
- Author technical reports, engineering evaluations, repair substantiation documentation, and process qualification packages.
- Present technical findings and recommendations to engineering leadership, operations teams, customers, and other stakeholders.
- Collaborate with repair cell engineers, quality personnel, and special process operators to troubleshoot manufacturing and repair-related issues.
- Conduct material characterization, microstructure evaluations, root-cause investigations, and data analysis to drive process improvements and cost reduction initiatives.
- Support continuous improvement efforts focused on quality, turnaround time, process capability, and component life extension.
- Participate in technical training, mentoring, and knowledge-sharing activities across the engineering organization.
- Support supplier qualification activities, raw material evaluations, and special process audits as required.
What You Will Learn
- This position offers a unique opportunity to build deep expertise in aerospace materials engineering within a hands-on Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) environment.
- As part of our Coatings Center of Excellence, you will contribute to industry-leading repair technologies and help shape the future of advanced coating solutions for small- and mid-sized turbine engines.
Qualifications You Must Have:
- An Advanced degree in Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline with a minimum of 5 years of experience in a special process engineering role; OR a Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related engineering discipline with a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience.
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Previous experience supporting aerospace coatings, special processes, or component repairs within an MRO, OEM, or manufacturing environment.
- Working knowledge of high-temperature superalloys, diffusion coatings, thermal spray systems, brazing, and heat treatment processes.
- Experience with laboratory analytical equipment and characterization techniques, including Optical microscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS), and Wavelength Dispersive Spectroscopy (WDS)
- Experience with metallographic sample preparation and materials characterization techniques.
- Experience with CAD software such as SOLIDWORKS, CATIA, Fusion 360, or AutoCAD.
- Ability to analyze technical data, solve engineering problems, and communicate findings effectively.
