The Nutrition Services Manager leads the food bank's direct nutrition education initiatives and mobile community outreach, and partners with the Development team to support donor engagement experiences. SummaryThe Nutrition Services Manager leads the food bank's direct nutrition education initiatives and mobile community outreach, and partners with the Development team to support donor engagement experiences. This role teaches engaging nutrition and cooking classes; manages mobile outreach through the food bank's food truck; and recruits, trains, and empowers community volunteers to facilitate educational programs. Additionally, this position collaborates closely with the Development team to leverage nutrition classes, cooking demonstrations, and mobile food truck sites as dynamic platforms for donor stewardship, cultivation, and community awareness.
KeyDuties and Responsibilities Nutrition Education & Direct Instruction
- Plan, schedule, and teach hands-on nutrition education, practical and budget-friendly cooking demonstrations, and recipe sampling at community sites (e.g., pantries, schools, senior centers).
- Adapt culturally responsive educational materials, recipes, and meal-prep strategies to align with the food inventory and needs of local clients.
- Evaluate educational programming using participant feedback, attendance data, and program outcomes.
- Manage scheduling, logistics, and site coordination for the food bank's food truck/mobile market events.
- Ensure the food truck is stocked with fresh produce, educational materials, cooking equipment, and distribution supplies prior to deployment.
- Oversee vehicle safety protocols, routine maintenance, inventory loading/unloading, and sanitation standards for the mobile unit.
- Coordinate with community partners to establish reliable, routine host sites and outreach schedules.
- Recruit, train, and mentor a dedicated team of nutrition volunteers, intern dietitians, and community educators.
- Prepare volunteer educators to independently lead or co-facilitate cooking demonstrations, recipe tastings, and nutrition workshops.
- Develop volunteer schedules, training guides, and resource kits to ensure consistent, high-quality instruction.
- Partner with the Development/Fundraising team to design and host interactive donor engagement opportunities, such as donor ride-alongs on the food truck, hands-on cooking demonstrations, and immersive volunteer shifts.
- Showcase nutrition programming and mobile market impact during site visits, donor appreciation events, and community sponsor activations.
- Serve as a passionate ambassador for the food bank's mission, sharing real-time stories, impact metrics, and client outcomes with donors, board members, and community stakeholders.
- Assist in preparing compelling impact data, photos, and narrative content for grant reporting, donor appeals, and sponsor recognition.
- Collaborate with local healthcare providers, schools, non-profits, and faith-based organizations to expand outreach footprint.
- Track program data, attendance metrics, grant deliverables, and budget expenditures.
- Maintain food safety compliance (Serv Safe) across all educational kitchens, food truck setups, and tasting events.
- Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, Public Health, Dietetics, Health Education, or a related field (or equivalent operational experience).
- 2 - 4 years of experience delivering community health/nutrition programs, ideally within a nonprofit or food security setting.
