Join the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Managed Care team as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN). Gain an opportunity to provide medical, mental health, and dental services across 22 West Texas facilities serving the Texas Department of Criminal Justice population.
Position DescriptionAs an LVN, you will deliver direct patient care, assist with treatment plans, and ensure the well-being of patients in a secure environment. Responsibilities include administering medications, performing health assessments, and supporting medical staff.
Major/Essential Functions- Administer medications and monitor patient health conditions to ensure adherence to care plans.
- Observe changes in patient conditions, identify problems, and help set patient care goals.
- Prepare and operate essential medical equipment for procedures, examinations, and treatments.
- Record patient assessments, interventions, and medication administration accurately in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Collaborate with healthcare providers and correctional staff to coordinate care.
- Maintain compliance with healthcare policies, safety standards, and regulations.
- Assist in medical emergencies, triage patients, and provide immediate care when necessary.

- Current Vocational Nurse License in Texas, or ability to transfer to Texas, or scheduled to complete an approved vocational nursing program within 120 days of application.
- Current CPR certification.
- Graduated from an approved accredited nursing program. New graduates must pass the NCLEX‑PN on the first attempt.
- 1–2 years of nursing experience.
- Experience in correctional nursing (jails, prisons, juvenile detention).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
