Job Overview
The Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care of patients.
The Clinic RN utilizes the nursing process by use of technology, therapeutic intervention, evidence-based practice, and coordination of care with other health team members in an outpatient clinic setting.
Clinic RNs are pivotal members of the care delivery team headed by the physician and possess specialized knowledge, skills, and ability pertinent to ambulatory care patient needs. Scope of performance includes prioritization and triage of care delivery, implementation of established standing orders and protocols, and performing procedures consistent with training and licensure.
Key Responsibilities- Provide general nursing care to patients by following established standards and procedures.
- Obtain patient consent for care and ensure patient confidentiality.
- Obtain and document health history, chief complaint, vital signs, and health risk factors; assess disease condition.
- Provide patient care based on practice guidelines, standards of care, and federal/state laws and regulations.
- Execute prescribed treatments and medical interventions, administer prescribed medications, and monitor and document treatment progress and patient response.
- Refer to/consult with physicians, other health providers, and community resources to prevent or resolve problems or concerns.
- Educate patients and families about health status, maintenance, and management of acute and chronic conditions.
- Document patient assessment and intervention data using established medical record forms/automated systems and documentation practices.
- Participate in multidisciplinary teams to improve patient care processes and outcomes.
- Track quality assurance data and monitor for acute and chronic care management.
- Promote mission, vision, and values of SCL Health, and abide by service behavior standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Current/valid Registered Nurse license from the state licensing board.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- One (1) year related experience in a clinic or acute hospital nursing setting.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Minimum Requirements
- Regular attendance to perform work on site during regularly scheduled business hours or scheduled shifts.
- Knowledge of nursing processes; health care systems, structure, and functions; community resources.
- Understanding of health care technology, equipment, and supplies.
- Familiarity with state law on nursing care, nurse practice guidelines, and clinic policies and procedures.
- Ability to effectively communicate to staff and patients.
- Demonstrate sound judgment and composure with the ability to take appropriate action in questionable or emergency situations.
- Maintain a positive, caring attitude toward patients.
- Possess a strong work ethic and a high level of professionalism.
- Critical thinking skills within scope of practice and improve patient outcomes.
- Must see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
- Must verbally communicate and hear information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, especially during emergencies.
- Must use manual dexterity to manipulate complex and delicate equipment; must engage in frequent computer use and typing.
- Must lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients, bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment, including items up to and including heavy items.
- Must walk and assist with transporting ambulatory patients, propelling or pulling gurneys and portable equipment, and navigate crowded and busy rooms with equipment and cords.
- Must stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
