Position Overview

James Lane Air Conditioning Company, Inc. is seeking a Plumber’s Apprentice to join our Special Projects Department. This role is designed for individuals with at least two years of plumbing or pipe fitting experience who are eager to expand their skills under the guidance of experienced plumbers. The apprentice will assist in the installation, repair, and maintenance of plumbing systems in a commercial and construction setting.

This position requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn. The Plumber’s Apprentice will be responsible for supporting daily operations, ensuring proper material handling, and maintaining compliance with safety and industry regulations.

Primary Responsibilities

• Assist with Installations & Repairs: Support the installation, repair, and maintenance of plumbing systems including water supply, drainage, and waste systems.
• On-Site Support: Aid on job sites by preparing materials, tools, and equipment needed for plumbing projects.
• Learning & Development: Participate in training sessions, shadow experienced plumbers, and learn proper techniques, tools, and safety practices.
• Maintenance & Cleanup: Help maintain a safe and organized work area, including cleaning and maintaining tools and equipment.
• Compliance & Safety: Adhere to all safety protocols and local plumbing codes while assisting on projects.
• Documentation: Assist with record keeping and documentation of work performed, as directed by the supervising plumber.
• Willingness to Learn: Open to training and actively seeking to develop plumbing skills and industry knowledge.
• Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with experienced professionals and support staff.
• Attention to Detail: Ensure all tasks are completed accurately, with a focus on quality and safety.
• Problem-Solving: Basic troubleshooting skills and the ability to ask questions to resolve issues on the job.
• Communication: Effective verbal communication skills to follow instructions and ask for guidance when needed.
• Physical Stamina: Capability to perform physically demanding tasks including lifting, bending, and working in varied conditions.
• Time Management: Ability to complete tasks within industry-standard time frames while maintaining quality.

Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum 2 years of plumbing or pipe fitting experience required.
• Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Certifications:
• Plumber’s Apprentice License (or ability to obtain upon employment).
• OSHA 10 Certification (or ability to obtain upon employment).
• Licenses:
• A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is required.
• Travel: Must be willing and able to travel.

Working Conditions

• Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM (staggered work schedules may be required). Overtime and overnight travel may be required based on project needs.
• Travel: Must be willing and able to travel.
• Environment: Job sites may include indoor and outdoor settings, with exposure to weather, dust, and noise. Work performed in tight spaces, elevated locations, and various construction environments.
• Physical Demands: Prolonged physical activity requiring stamina and agility, including operating tools, machinery, and equipment essential for tasks. Ability to work at heights and confined spaces.
• Safety Requirements: Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) on job sites. Compliance with all company safety protocols and OSHA regulations is mandatory.
