Position Overview:
As a Fire Protection Shop Technician, you will be responsible for the maintenance, testing, and refilling of fire safety equipment within our shop. You will provide vital support for our field teams through inventory management and equipment deliveries, while also assisting walk‑in customers. This role includes a 6‑month apprenticeship, during which you will gain the hands‑on experience required to earn your Texas Fire Extinguisher License.
Primary Responsibilities
- Extinguisher Servicing:
Inspect, maintain, and service all types of fire extinguishers, including ABC dry chemical, Water, CO2, and Ansul systems. - Hydrostatic Testing & Refilling:
Assist in the pressurized testing of cylinders and perform the refilling of air and CO2 bottles. - Field Support:
Assist field technicians with loading/unloading materials and making equipment deliveries to customers or job sites. - Warehouse & Inventory:
Receive deliveries, manage inventory levels of warehouse supplies, and utilize forklifts or pallet jacks to move heavy materials. - Customer Service:
Act as a primary point of contact for walk‑in customers, providing professional and helpful assistance. - Shop Maintenance:
Perform regular housekeeping duties to ensure a clean, organized, and safe working environment in the shop and warehouse. - Technical Proficiency:
Ability to learn and apply fire protection system installation techniques, operate industry tools, and understand system components. - Problem‑Solving:
Capable of identifying potential installation challenges, troubleshooting issues, and applying logical solutions. - Time Management:
Skilled in prioritizing multiple tasks, managing workload, and meeting deadlines in fast paced environments. - Adaptability:
Ability to adjust to changing work conditions, unexpected job challenges, and varying job site locations. - Communication:
Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with coworkers, supervisors, and clients. - Customer Service:
Professional attitude and ability to work with clients to ensure high‑quality service and customer satisfaction. - Safety Focus:
Commitment to strict adherence to OSHA, NFPA, and company safety regulations to ensure a safe working environment. - Teamwork &
Collaboration:
Ability to work effectively with a team, take direction, and contribute to project success
Qualifications and
Experience:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Certifications and Licenses:
Valid driver's license with insurability under company policy.
Preferred but not required: OSHA 10 certification.
Experience and Skills:
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand tools, power tools, pipe fitting equipment, and ladders safely.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents, diagrams, and safety guidelines.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to follow precise instructions.
- Willingness to learn and grow within the fire protection industry.
