Primary
Purpose:
Perform a variety of general maintenance, repair, renovation, and construction duties to structures and equipment with little or no assistance from a supervisor. Assist a skilled craftsman on major maintenance or construction projects such as tile setting, air conditioning and heating equipment, painting, plumbing and electrical repairs.
Qualifications:
1.
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Seven years of experience in general building maintenance or carpentry, electrical, plumbing or air conditioning and heating.
2. Special knowledge/
Skills:
Through knowledge of practices and procedures and work methods associated with building maintenance and repair. Ability to operate hand tools and equipment is required.
3. Other Requirements: Hold a valid Texas driver's license and must have an outstanding attendance record.
4. Act as a lead worker at assigned school: Quickly evaluating issues and independently assessing work needed, appropriate parts determined and quick resolutions.
Major Responsibilities:
5. Performs a variety of general maintenance, repair, and/or construction duties to structures and equipment
6. Assist a skilled craftsman on major maintenance or construction projects such as tile setting, air conditioning and heating equipment, painting, plumbing, electrical repairs
7. Repair light fixtures (to include bulb and ballast replacement)
8. Repair and maintain machines and mechanical equipment
9. Perform minor carpentry and make plaster or drywall repairs
10. Repair windows, doors, floors, woodwork, and other parts of building structure
11. Perform preventative maintenance by following a checklist to inspect belts, check fluid levels, and replace filters. Keep records of maintenance and repair work
12. Follow all safety practices and procedures
13. Carry materials and equipment
14. Clean work site and other assigned areas
15. Able to climb ladders, work on lifts and scaffolding.
16. Regular attendance.
17. Work some weekends as directed. Be able to be called-out for emergencies.
18. Control/inventory/clean/maintain all equipment and or tools assigned.
19. Other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None.
Equipment Used: Use common hand and power tools such as screwdrivers, saws, drills, wrenches, and hammers.
Working Conditions:
• Mental Demands: Reading, maintain emotional control under stress and demanding situations.
• Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Strenuous walking, standing, bending, and/or climbing stairs or ladders; frequent lifting and carrying of up to 50 pounds; work outside and inside; exposure to hot and cold temperatures; exposed to dust, dirt, and paint fumes; work under buildings and or work on top of roofs, work on elevated platforms such as scaffolding and or bucket trucks; must be able to work as a team member and at times work alone.
