Responsible to the Athletics Director for the management and administration of all phases of the Women's Basketball Program in a manner that upholds the philosophy and objectives of the Department of Athletics. Supervises full‑time assistant, graduate assistants and student assistants.
Supervises student athletes' development and progress in academics and athletics. Organizes and supervises all practice sessions. Works closely with the Athletics Director to develop game schedules; prepare an annual budget; and plan major purchases. Oversees the selection, purchase, fitting, and maintenance of all team equipment according to state and university policies and regulations. Arranges officials for all games, makes all team travel arrangements, monitors the eligibility status of student athletes, assists with fund‑raising and promotional activities, and establishes and monitors a program of team conduct and discipline.
Works with the Athletics Director and the Head Athletic Trainer to ensure that all games and practices are conducted under safe conditions and that athletic injuries receive prompt medical attention. Develops and maintains a recruiting program designed to attract top‑quality student‑athletes to the university, ensuring compliance with all rules and regulations of conferences and national athletic associations for which the university may be a member.
Performs other duties as requested by the Athletics Director.
Physical Condition &
Experience:
Five to ten years college coaching experience, preferably as a head coach in a competitive program at a four‑year institution, or five to ten years in a competitive junior college or high school program.
Knowledge &
Skills:
Must be able to communicate and deal effectively with students, alumni, boosters, the media, and the community lic speaking skills extremely helpful. Must have good organizational and administrative skills.
Education:
Master’s degree required, preferably in Kinesiology and/or sports administration.
- Previous experience and proven record in coaching college basketball programs, including recruiting, scouting, fundraising, budget preparation, effective communication skills, scheduling and PR skills.
- Thorough knowledge of applicable NCAA rules and regulations.
- Certification in subjects he/she teaches.
- Availability some nights and weekends; periodic standby or on‑call basis.
- Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
