Position SummaryThe Staff Accountant is a critical role responsible for maintaining financial accuracy across all active construction projects. You will own job costing, support financial reporting, manage accounts receivable, oversee vendor billing, and ensure CRM‑to‑accounting data integrity.
This is not an entry‑level bookkeeping position. We need someone with analytical ability, construction accounting experience, and the initiative to identify problems before they become expensive. The right person will grow into a senior financial role as the company scales.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain accurate job costing across all active projects, ensuring costs are properly coded and allocated.
- Reconcile CRM data (Job Nimbus) with accounting software to ensure project financials are consistent and current.
- Track Work in Progress (WIP) schedules and job profitability on an ongoing basis.
- Manage accounts receivable aging and provide collections support as needed.
- Assist in preparation of monthly financial statements and management reports.
- Perform general ledger reconciliations on a regular cycle.
- Maintain accurate expense tracking and cost coding across departments and projects.
- Manage vendor bill processing and lien waiver tracking.
- Support month‑end close procedures and ensure timely, accurate reporting.
- Identify discrepancies, flag issues early, and proactively resolve financial inconsistencies.
- 3+ years of accounting experience in a professional setting.
- Direct experience in construction accounting or job costing (required, not preferred).
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis.
- Solid understanding of accrual accounting principles and their application.
- Hands‑on experience with both accounts receivable and accounts payable functions.
- Highly organized, self‑managed, and consistently deadline‑driven.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and job files simultaneously without losing accuracy.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience with Quick Books Desktop or Quick Books Online.
- Familiarity with construction CRM platforms such as Job Nimbus.
- Experience preparing WIP reports and job profitability analyses.
- Background in insurance restoration or general contractor operations.
- Clean, audit‑ready books: every transaction coded correctly, every reconciliation current, every balance defensible.
