Building Controls & Services Inc. – A member of the AIR Control Concepts family. Building Controls and Services, Inc. (BCS) is an HVAC and building automation company founded in 1985, serving Kansas and Western Missouri. The company provides heating and air conditioning, building automation, energy management, and indoor air quality solutions, focusing on system efficiency and long-term cost control.

The Staff Accountant will prepare and maintain financial records to track the organization’s assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities.

Responsibilities 30% Parts and Inventory Accounting
  • Works closely with Parts Manager on all parts issues, returns and adjustments.
  • Closely monitors activity related return of inventory from contract jobs, work- and service-orders.
  • Tracks parts accounts to ensure all parts sales are billed.
  • Ensures that sales and costs are accurately entered into the accounting software from the parts software.
30% Jobs Setup and Change Orders
  • Ensures all appropriate documentation is present before a job is set up in the accounting system; if documentation is accurate, sets up the job in the accounting software.
  • Creates change orders when requested by operations.
  • Completes job billings.
  • Manages accounts receivable collections.
15% Prework Job Management
  • Closes preworks to job cost and bid expense.
  • Works with sales team to manage active and inactive prework list.
  • Allocates overhead costs to open preworks.
15% Maintain Accounting Documents
  • Maintains vendor credentialing.
  • Completes state registrations.
  • Sends tax exempt forms to vendors.
  • Completes new customer paperwork for new vendors.
  • Tracks certificates of insurance for subcontracts and manages compliance.
  • Manages intracompany and intercompany transactions.
  • Manages subcontract lien waivers.
10% Warranty Accounting
  • Creates warranty reports for leadership and maintains warranty account tracking.
  • Backs up for submitting warranty claims.
  • Assists with setting up and closing out work orders.
Qualifications Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting or related discipline, required.
Skills and Experience
  • Minimum three years accounting experience, required.
  • Two to three years construction industry experience, preferred.
  • Sales tax experience, preferred.
  • Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Ability to use logic and reason.
  • Ability to consider relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate course of action.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Mathematical abilities to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio, percent and create and interpret graphs.
  • Strong problem‑solving ability.
  • Detailed and thorough in completing job tasks.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • CPA preferred.
Training and Development
  • Completes required continuing education to maintain certification.
Physical Requirements
  • Requires frequent standing, walking, climbing of stairs, bending, squatting or twisting.
  • Requires the ability to carry, lift, move or push up to 20 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Must be able to talk and listen to others.
  • Frequent use of manual dexterity and visualization of a computer screen throughout the day.
  • Requires ability to see up close and distant, distinguish colors, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
  • This position regularly works in an office setting.
  • Regular noise levels range from minimal to moderate.
  • Most job duties require the employee to work with computers and electronic media on a regular basis.
