Position Summary The Accounting Manager is a hands-on, working leader responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting operations while actively completing and reviewing accounting deliverables. This role provides leadership across corporate and field accounting and administrative teams, ensures the integrity of financial data, and drives process improvement and standardization throughout the organization.
Responsibilities and Duties Serve as a working manager, actively preparing, reviewing, and approving accounting work papers and processes
Provide leadership, direction, and support to accounting and administrative teams at both corporate and field locations
Manage the month-end close process while maintaining a strong internal control environment
Oversee general accounting functions, including general ledger, accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, intercompany activity, cash management, and financial reporting
Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations to validate underlying transactions and maintain deep knowledge of critical account balances
Maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity
Ensure accuracy, completeness, and reliability of accounting data from ERP and reporting systems
Drive continuous process improvements by identifying gaps, recognizing control weaknesses or inefficiencies, and recommending practical solutions
Refine, document, and implement standardized accounting processes across assigned locations to improve efficiency, consistency, and scalability
Monitor and analyze accounting and administrative activities to develop efficiencies while maintaining a high level of accuracy
Provide key support for annual external audits and bank audits, including preparation of supporting schedules, work papers, and explanations
Support management initiatives such as process standardization, simplification, financial analysis, variance resolution, and special projects
Analyze financial data and trends to deliver insights and recommend strategies that support organizational goals
Partner across departments to resolve issues, support priorities, and meet shared objectives
Qualifications and Skills Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required7–10 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably at the Staff Accountant level or higher
Strong understanding of GAAP, including income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement preparation
Demonstrated experience with month-end close, journal entries, and account reconciliations
Experience implementing new systems and serving as a cross-functional resource during the transition
Proven ability to improve and standardize accounting processes in a growing organization
Experience with Syspro ERP a plus Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and competing deadlines
Excellent communicator able to effectively interact with all levels of the organization
Uses sound judgment and compelling reasoning to gain support and drive alignment
Strategic thinker with a solid understanding of accounting principles and financial processes
Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and continuous refinement of results
Proactive self-starter who takes on new challenges with energy and urgency
Ability to resolve conflict and navigate complex challenges effectively
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make timely, informed decisions
Collaborative partner who shares knowledge, builds relationships, and promotes a user-focused mindset
Ability to see the big picture and translate insights into actionable strategies
